Take payment in Monero but host your material on Telegram? 🤔

Yes what's wrong with it?) Ik telegram isn't the most privacy respecting Plattform but it's great for my purposes, channels can be made to look very fancy and easy to understand. I thought it was a good idea because communication can also happen right there)

Telegram requires a phone number to sign up, so xmr peeps are reluctant to use it. A lot of the community is on matrix/element for this reason, and I'd suggest to create an account there, so that people can contact you easily.

At the risk of being "that annoying privacy guy", Matrix is not great either. Your server collects a myriad of metadata.

I'd recommend Simplex or Session.

I know Telegram is probably the most feature-complete messenger in existence so I understand the inclination but your customers that are wanting to pay with Monero are probably doing so because they want to maintain their privacy.

Yes i totally understand and i used simplex aswell as matrix before! Will setup an account there later today and update the link) Onionsite for portfolio is a great idea too!

XMPP is far better. monerobros.club is open for in-client registrations

Yes what's wrong with it?

Monero exists for private transfers. Telegram is not remotely private.

Migrate from telegram to something like, like an onion site, to showcase your work. Accept messages on XMPP and you are good to go

Yes. Basically you need a phone number there. I don’t think it’s a good choice. Get your own server, anonymously if desired, and please do not put it behind Cloud Flare. Ideally, an independent libre artist should not rely on a centralized platform provided by a Big Tech company. I believe this is obvious.

If you don’t speak HTML and can’t create your own web pages, then maybe a Tor-friendly Mastodon instance?

PS: or maybe Pixelfed (if it’s Tor-friendly)

[-] moneromaxi@monero.town 2 points 2 years ago

Mastodon is not even great as well. Epicyon is better and works with no JS

[-] Saki@monero.town 2 points 2 years ago

Yeah, I’m not really a huge fan of Mastodon. It’s at least usable for Tor users, though; there is an onion Mastodon instance, where the admin is obviously Tor-friendly. On the other hand, Telegram, Discord, etc. are tantamount to non-existing as you can’t even sign up anonymously.

Ideally, I think an artist should have their own domain & web site, where they can control every detail, rather than relying on a platform. That’d be my Plan A. Pixelfed, Mastodon, etc. are Plan B, for those who don’t want to learn HTML (or PHP or something like that).

Working with no JS surely sounds great, either way.
