"while Costco was seeing a direct impact from tariffs on imports of some fresh food items from Central and South America, it decided not to increase prices 'because they are key staple items' for its customers."

Is.... Is this a capitalistic megacorp... Acting like a good guy?

Squint

I maintain doubt... Unless... ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ‘ˆ

Something something no ethical consumption under capitalism, and no corporation is your friend.

But on the average, relative to other American retailers, Costco is probably one of the less shitty. They pay workers higher wages and are pretty consumer friendly.

I once bought a laptop from them that developed an issue with its keyboard just after a year of owning it. The manufacturer refused to do anything about it, but Costco's own warranty was twice as long and they fixed it free of charge. I can't hate them that much.

Except for being anti-union.

There are far crappier megacorps than Costco. They've actually managed to turn treating their workers and customers right into a successful business model.

As a counterpoint to the unlimited corporate greed you usually see, their corporate policy puts a cap on their overall profits to 14%. Any excess they roll back into lower prices for their members.

Yeah, Costco is surprisingly not scummy under its current leadership. They and Arizona are the only two I don't have any major issues with.

Them and Newman's Own. Although they're both very similar outliers, they're wealthy people intentionally hijacking capitalism to do something good in the world.

They partner with Flock cameras so they aren't the good guys.

Do you have a source please? I haven't seen any Flock cameras at Costcos local to me. However, searching for more info did uncover this Flock link:

Where there are chicken skin crips, there's chicken skin bloods

Ah man, I didn't know this. All Corporations Are Bastards!

[-] paultimate14@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

When the revolution comes (spoiler: it won't, but I like to dream) we eat the worst corporations first. Kroger's, Mejer, Albertsons, United Natural Foods, Wal-Mart, Amazon.

I'm not saying Costco is perfect, but they're a lower priority.

Lawsuits are the only thing that actually scare people like Trump.
