I'll be making an effortpost on my blog soon-ish about it, before promptly losing interest in it forever.

The benefit is you become a pretty well rounded person knowledge wise. I can discuss anything from watches to horror movies and not seem like a poser

This is true. I can converse with almost anyone unless its about hunting or sportsball.

[-] moondoggie@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Just remember that talking about shooting works with both of those.

[-] Kyrgizion@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

True. There's just a couple of subjects that don't interest me at all, like sports or fashion. Apart from that I'm honestly interested in pretty much everything, I'm very curious by nature.

Sounds like we’d get along. I like to say I’m fascinated by everything, except sports and celebrities. (Though I do have a fondness for certain voice actors in US animation, simply by consuming so much of the medium.) As to fashion, modern fashion isn’t interesting, but historical fashion is pretty cool. I didn’t think I’d be into historical architecture until I inadvertently took a class that included it in high school.

Right? And i would't trade it for anything but sometimes I can't help but feel like a traitor.

I’ve learned to return to fixations but it sometimes takes a while.

2 things I’m doing right now to keep focus:

-Leave things in meaningful spots: this thing needs to go upstairs later on=> put it on the stairs so you can’t miss it.

  • Eliminate all bs distractions: kill your YouTube addiction, stop gaming, … holy shit the amount of time you get instead… (I’m using Linux…. Btw. No seriously, W11 is a distraction minefield).

Harness your hyperfocus and go kick some ass!

Instructions unclear, stairs are now impassable.

Congrats OP! Make the most of it. =)

But there's always something new to learn and eventually you'll get the urge to go back to older stuff once something internally clicks that allows you to learn more of it or to do it in a newer novel way.

Shut up, I'm refilling my chakras.

[-] Sanguine@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 days ago

Lmao true gonna start using this between hobby hops.

[-] moondoggie@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

I just got my two new fountain pens yesterday, so I’m at the start of my latest. I’m destined to become the greatest sketcher in the next three days. This time this one will stick. I just know it.

I've got too much pride to give up my hyperfixation hobbies. I have too many hobbies.

[-] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

I dont think I am DHD but I can really relate to this. I have started like a couple hobbies and then just abandoned them

[-] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

Rookie numbers.. try a couple a year, plus the ones that never really take off.. For me, it's pipe smoking at the moment.. but I've been through so many that I can't even mention them. The largest ones in recent years were sim racing, fancy goldfish and to some extend Elite Dangerous (a space exploration/sim game). Those have gone pretty deep.

[-] Kyrgizion@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I think there should be more distinction. One hyperfixation isn't exactly like all the others. I've picked up one or two that have stuck with me throughout the years.

Apart from that it's usually a period of focus on a certain medium/series/... which can get pretty intense but not exactly the same level as the "true" hyperfixations.

@db0 can confirm.

I feel attacked

Just bought handheld, debating buying moza r5 (direct drive wheel, but budget end) now, or saving for a new pc so I can get back into blender (geonodes had so much lag for stuff ppl on youtube could easily handle, my gaming laptop just never gave me issues outside of msfs and dcs vr, but then I decided to learn blender and now it feels weak)

I've always wanted a wheel, but then I go drive my car every day and lose the urge to buy one because of the lack of gforces, but then I remember arcades and how much I love the racing games with wheels with no gforces.

[-] dil@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 days ago

Why no flight sim or driving sim where in game you are controlling a full sized drone from far away, that would add so much immersion for me, just knowing logically I shouldnt feel g forces but should have full range of control

[-] Ertain@mast.linuxgamecast.com 1 points 3 days ago

@db0 I know this all too well.

I’m simultaneously in this picture and don’t like it, while simultaneously thinking Thor was worthy the entire time.
