Believe me when I say that I'll be happy if Nintendo faces financial consequences for some of the things they've done in the market, but all this data proves is that PS5 had a large discount and Switch 2 did not.

This actually kicks out Veritasium for having no value, and i have a long standing issue with Derek. I like Veritasium, it's a valuable channel that is entertaining and educational, but Derek is a sellout for a)knowing how bad clickbait is, talk about it in one of his older video, but continue to engage with it, which got even worst recent year; b) sold Veritasium to private equity, which explains why the shitbait is so so bad recently.
There's click bait, and then there's rage bait. Veritasium never tried to get me upset about gravity not being a force with a thumbnail of an evil Albert Einstein saying, "HE LIED".
Not sure when the sale happened, but there was a recent video about the invention of the Blue LED from the past year which was really good, highly recommended. To me click bait implies the contents are not worth the headline / title / thumbnail, but old Veritasium and recent have kept up mostly the same level of quality IMO. I will say updating old video titles and thumbnails to juice the numbers was annoying, but the optimist in me figured that at least people who had not previously experienced old Veritasium got it recommended to them which is a positive.
They did use AB testing, and some of their video thumbnail and title did have that sort of combination when the AB test is in effect. The best one imo is still the fresh upload, which then youtube will cycle all the thumbnail and then end up with the one that got the most click. If you pay attention to it when they first upload then a day later then a few days then a week, it will usually cycle from good to really bad then finally end in bad as their forever thumbnail and title.

In fact, Mat Piscatella of Circana says, "On the hardware side, PS5 saw the most extensive discounting. So, it got a big sales lift. Wouldn't take much more away from the week than that, tbh."
Didn't the PS5 also have a price increase at some point this year though?
It did but any sort of discount is a big deal because nobody expects prices to drop in anything anymore during the end stage capitalism death spiral we’re stuck in.

Why buy a Switch 2 before they make a new Animal Crossing?
They’re not making a new Animal Crossing for the Switch 2. They’re making a free hotel add on for New Horizons that is the DLC but toned down. And adding multi crafting and strafe terraforming. Oh and mouse controls and the ability to call villagers via the mic for the Switch 2. $5 for that.
I'm sure they'll make one eventually. They don't have anything else in exactly the same niche, and ACNH was incredibly popular. This seems like the kind of update you put out to make sure people keep the brand in mind while your next title is still too far out to announce.
They seem content to repackage Switch 1 games as Switch 2 ones and act like they're new, just like they did with Wii U ports to the Switch.
I don't think that's really the same. The repackaging of Wii U games was because the Switch's install base was several times larger than the Wii U's, so they could sell them to people who had never played them before. The "Switch 2 Edition" updates are a way to try to extract some extra money from people who already played the games, but they're not going to fulfill the same strategic goals as, say, Mario Kart 8 DX, partly because they aren't going to sell as much, and partly because most of the people who buy them will already own the game and therefore only pay the upgrade price. I think from a strategic standpoint they're basically filler.
I agree that they're filler, but Nintendo overemphasizes their importance when they're released. It feels like they're trying to hide how few new first party games they're actually releasing.
Honestly, if I was really into AC still I’d be ok paying for the work of some devs of a five year old game if it made some good quality of life upgrades.
Why before a Switch 2 before they release the OLED version?
If you're just going to use it docked, the screen doesn't matter.
Terrible video. PS5 sold well as it has tons of games and a reasonable price. Switch 2 doesn't have either yet. Microsoft marked Xbox for death with it's stupid 30 percent profit push. Done.
Cool The last console I thought had a valid economic model was the 3DO.
