Apparently a bunch of right wing Internet media keeps trying to name him "Edward Crabtree" and cover up the fact that he's Muslim
who cares what online racist dweebs think or say about anything?
A lot of people, unfortunately
and who's that?
Voters
I do because it affects our politics. Where do you think Trump came from? Born straight out of Fox News propaganda.
Most of them at the beginning of any operation are Russian/Iranian bots (both real people and LLMs) whose entire job it is to rile people up and get the MAGA-types to latch on and grow the sentiment organically. But again, who cares what they say? Just ignore or silence them as quickly and cleanly as possible.
All true! But in the end, they still affect my life, so I do have to care what's said, even if it is a bot or a filthy Russian.
How do you know he’s Muslim? Lots of Arabs are Christian, some non religious.
On another platform, someone claimed he was maronite christian. I guess I'll have to wait until someone asks him in an interview. 🤷
This seems unlikely. Ahmed comes from the same root as Muhammad. His cousin was interviewed and named Mustapha, also an epithet of Muhammad. I don't know too much about Maronite Christian naming conventions, but these two names have a pretty explicit association with Muhammad in Arabic.
The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a fruit store.
Seriously though, this brave man proves that you don't need a gun to stop a bad guy with a gun. We need fewer guns, not more.
If fruit stores are outlawed only outlaws will have fruit stores.
Bet the republikkkans won't call this man a hero. He isn't white.
And he didn’t have a gun himself. Breaking their myth that the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.
Mr Ahmed, who was wearing a white T-shirt, was shot twice in the incident and was due to have surgery, his cousin, Mustafa, has revealed.
Who shot him? I'm assuming the terrorist. Or was it the cops?
The other terrorist.
Dad lived a life of violence when he was young. He advised me to attack the weapon, not the man. This guy focused on the weapon, not beating ass. Good on him.
Your dad is right — but if you only go for the business end of the weapon, then a simple rotation can put you in front of the business end. You want to stay on the end towards the enemy, and keep your body towards their body.
Go for the hands, and turn your body into their body. Use that leverage to wrest the weapon. Obviously easier said than done. Somehow Ahmed did it perfectly.
Really wish the guy had at least shot the murderer in his hands, so he not only has to live his life out in prison, but can't jerk off comfortably.
He was able to do what he could do. Believe me when I say that there's absolutely a wall that most people never hit when it comes to shooting a living being, human or not. Most people never hit that wall, because they never seek out the activities that would cause you to hit that wall. I couldn't shoot my first deer. Shooting my first human was a bit easier, as I actually shot them, but still caused hesitation. I don't know about the second human or second animal, and I hope I never find out. Unfortunately, with the way things are going, I suspect I will have to shoot more people to survive.
Nah, I'm a stern believer of forced castration for people like this. Shoot his junk off.
That's a regressive way of thinking. Revenge doesn't actually feel good once you are done, it feels wrong. Put them in a rehabilitative program so that they will learn why what they did was wrong, and how much harm they did to themselves and others.
Nah, revenge feels pretty damn good.
Do the rehabilitation thing because it's the civilised thing to do, not because it feels better. It doesn't, we're still violent stupid monkeys, not that deep inside.
I could get on board with that.

Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.
