Ok what's the real reason they're dissolving it? They haven't been forced to do this obviously, they've done it willingly with 97% of them agreeing. This AP article has literally no explanation whatsoever, it just goes off into propaganda about the HK riots and then leaves the reader to interpret that they must have been forced into this by the evil "CCP" by completely omitting whatever real debate must have occurred within the party to produce 97% support for dissolving.

This major force for liberal democracy had 400 members, according to NATOpedia.

Hong Kong has a population of more than 7.5 million.

Very real, very not astroturfed movement for liberal democracy.

To be fair, that's probably a better ratio than most DSA chapters in the US.

Of course DSA isn't receiving financial or technical support from foreign governments.

According to the NYT there's around 90,000 DSA members in all of the US, so with ~340 million Americans the DSA has 5 times more members pro capita than "the biggest pro-democracy party" in Hong Kong lol

And I'm pretty sure the DSA's ratio would be significantly better if you only looked at major cities. There's a local meme party where I live, whose only tenet is that they like drinking beer, and it has a better ratio than the Hong Kong Democratic Party

lol the US allegedly agrees to trade Asia for the Middle East and two weeks later these nerds almost unilaterally disband

It has been very interesting watching all of these "freedom and democracy" NGOs and "Freedom watch" type people and organisations all fold in on themselves now that the US isn't nearly as concerned with soft power and slashed their funding.

Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body.

If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include not just the twitter.com URL but also Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source (archive.today, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org). Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed.

Mass-tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken Markov chain bot will result in a comm ban.

Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.

Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned.

Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society.
