They remind me of a toy I had as a kid that was a hairy ball with led lights at the end.

Melaleuca, alongside Callistemon (bottlebrush) and leptospermum, are part of the Leptospermum alliance and are popular native shrubs and trees.

Here's a Callistemon sp. that was flowering in my parents' garden last month with a wine-y, deep ruby colour.

I love seeing Maleleuca and Callistemon in full bloom buzzing with beez
