Persona 3 Reload. Borrowed it from the library. And on the side, some Slay the Princess.
I am currently playing Witchfire, a Early Access purely single player 3d Shooter with randomized elements and a touch of dark souls and extraction shooter.
You play as a Preyer, an undead anointed by the Pope to hunt Witches in a war where the Church is on the losing end. The levels themselves are static, but the placement and types of monsters, treasures and so on is randomized - they change if you level up, meaning as long as you don't do that, you can try mastering a specific stage. Dying is a lot like Dark Souls - You get one chance at a corpse run, but only your last death is recoverable. (It's nice that even in death you keep progression-related items you picked up tho)
I'm really having fun, the game has an excellent atmosphere. I read a part of their dev team are ex-Painkiller devs, and you can feel that movement & combat wise.
Just finished the holiday carrolling quest in Toontown Rewritten last night.
I have also recently been having fun with the KilaFlow demo. It's a 3D platformer that has you playing through each level multiple times but is still really fun because it can be fairly fast paced.
But I think my crowning achievement for games played this month was beating my first ever fallout new vegas run a couplendays ago. Embarrassed the Legate with just a fully modded war club... before embarrassing Oliver with Salt Upon Wound's Fist after talking him down in a House run.
I got to chapter 12 of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and can't be bothered to finish it. I really don't like how so much of the game feels like padding. There are parts that flow naturally, but they get interrupted by long wastes of time that usually force you to play really bad minigames. At some point the dungeons too started to feel samey. The open world is also Ubisoft-level bad, so I've been ignoring it.
The story also feels like a downgrade from the original version in some ways. I though some sequences had less impact (specifically Dyne's story and Red's trial. Shinra Mansion too I thought was ruined).
I'm not really a fan of remakes in general. I think they are usually unnecessary and a wasted opportunity to do something new, and it bothers me how they often try to "erase" the original's gameplay. This one in particular feels like an excuse to sell a single game split in three parts. I doubt I'll be playing the third one.
I've been trying The Last Remnant. Its gameplay is kinda weird and unique, although a bit too opaque. Not sure if it's good, but it's at least interesting.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
I did finish the game, but it was a complete slog at the end. It was mainly because I still really like the characters and had invested too much time into the two games at that point, so I have to see this trilogy through to the end.
Like you said, there's just soooo much padding, and I'd even say the world is much worse than Ubisoft stuff. It's just empty, except for the same five copy & paste "events" in every zone.
Something must be wrong with me though, since I've actually been thinking about replaying the game lately. Dunno why, but the thought just keeps creeping into my brain every now and then.
Back and forth between Silksong (on console) until either my thumbs hurt or I’m overly pissed off, then Satisfactory on PC. Then after about 321 hours I remember I have to eat or pee.
Just gotta get this aluminum factory up, then I'll be done. What's that MAM, you're done scanning a hard drive? New recipe you say. Guess I need to rebuild that aluminum factory...
Silksong has the other end of the problem: “Fuck this, I’m never going to play again” rage quit. So I get a day or two off.
Diablo 4 season 11
Im replaying the original dying light :3. Honestly the way old games are better in so many ways, and worse in others is something I find interesting
Elaborate! If you want to, that first Dying Light was a great game but I never played the sequels
This is mostly for AAA games not so much indies.. and not neccessarily just dying light
One thing about older games that tends to be better imo is the world design, even with the worse tech a lot of the time they feel more tightly designed around the mechanics, being more densely populated with content, instead of just being massive open worlds even when that doesn't serve the gameplay loop, or having the far cry 5 "tackle zones in whatever order" thing, which just leads to them all feeling inconsequential and kinda samey, cause you don't get zones designed for specific skills you pick up later etc. and in general newer games feel more homogenized imo, like every game is an open world first person shooter, with light RPG elements (unless it's an online arena hero shooter), and what would've been the central mechanic boils down to a small part of it. so dying light for me feels like a parkour game while more of the modern games that feature those mechanics feel like games that happen to have parkour in them
Also in general older games feel less intrusive, newer games just have pop-ups and collectables and UI for every little thing all the time, it feels like it just wants you to buy a battlepass and DLC and whatever else
But where they are a lot worse is accesability. I mean dying light's controller settings are weird, like you have 4 presets you can change, but you can't bind the buttons individually, and some games I played don't have options to rebind at all even if they detect the controller. I always end up just using steam input anyway tbh, but if not for that replaying those games would be a lot more painful, also I often find a lot of settings like FOV or whatever else lacking (dying light is fine in that regard :3), and there's also things in a lot of older games where they don't neccesarily remind you what quest you're on, or teach you certain mechanics etc. So sometimes when I take a break from one for a while I end up needing to just run around or look up what im actually meant to be doing lol :3 maybe that's just me
Though overall I do enjoy a lot of the older games more than modern ones in the AAA scene lol. I do still play a lot of modern indies as well :3

Good description of the problems! I don’t play many big games nowadays but the tutorialization definitely feels heavy handed. I’m reminded of the newer Doom games that want to make sure players don’t get confused with pops for every single enemy. I think it’s a result of trying to scoop up a wider net of players to recoup those crazy dev costs.
Accessibility is a big win, replaying older games is sometimes very jank because of how games have evolved!
Putting a lot of time into Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. I'm deep in Act 2, probably close to the end.
Since I cleared a bunch of areas that I wasn't supposed to yet, thanks to the parry that makes you invincible, I'm massively overleveled. I don't mind this kinda stuff though, even like it in RPGs like this, so it's not a big deal, that story bosses die in like three turns or something at this point.
A lot of Peak with my partner. Having a ton of fun
Destiny 2 always, it's the dawning right now so enjoying that. Not much else at the moment. Rocket league is another always kinda game so that as well.
Absolum. A side scroller rogue like. The art is beautiful. Combat satisfying. The four characters all have depth and story. Couch or online coop. Super fun!
Still ff12 but I got past the shrine of miriam and up to the phon coast. Im going back and picking up optional espers which I had not done before so there are a few I can get.
An update on my builds. So I was using this guys thing that combined having everyone have 3x speed and making sure people could get synergizing equipment. Thing is I really want to use all classes and his did not do that. In addition I noticed he skipped some of the equipment synergizing anyway. There is actually only one thing I had to get rid of from his rules to get all 12 classes and that is having the supposed top 3 weapons seperated between characters so they could be on the filed concurrently. Anyway I decided I could kick that out so my criteria is 3x speed, item synergy, and not combining two magic user types for survivability (mostly hit points).
So my class pair start with the redmage/archer. This is easy as its a well known combo and its about maximizing the red mages capstone big damage spell ardur which is a fire spell. They either have to be paired with black mage which is verboten by my rule or archer for the burning bow and its a highly rated pairing by many people so its a no brainer. The peson to put it on was a bit difficult though. penelo makes the most sense for black mage because most mp and magic power and then fran has the highest vitality so is basically best for time mage. ashe is second with mp and magic power so she makes the most sense min/max wise but darnit. rp wise fran makes so much sense since she starts with a bow and the basic black and white mage spells. Its perfect for her but I went min/max and did ashe.
Next im going to jump to some warriors. The guy whos guide I used says vann is best for the best bushi blade because of his one handed animation. Im assuming that is true. This is were we meet the crux of my difference. I find the knight absolutely has to have the bushi. excalibur needs mystic robes and the knight does not get 3x speed. only one class can bring that to him and that is knight. This puts two of the top three weapons on vann but im fine with that. I mean every class gets a top weapon and I am going to assume I will live with the possible third weapons that might be used which, you know, might more likley be a spell caster or technic. So bushi/knight is my second and goes on vann
Next he similarly says balthier is apparently best with the ninja sword dark blade and im trusting him on that so he becomes the shikashi which has 3x speed and could benefit from mystic armor for the dark blade. Since all my other mages are marked for other individuals he gets white mage and oh boy. I am so happy with this combo. with the mane gouche or whatever you get high evasion and the shikashi gets lots of hp and shields. this makes a great tank for the period evasion is useful. So you essentially get a healer/support/tank all in one which gives you much more options for the other two in tough fights. Later the knight/bushi becomes another sorta option for that when espers help you unlock some white mage spells and a combo below should take over the role and be even better late game.
Ok. So we got 3 of the six and next im going to pair fran's time mage with something and it already has the 3x speed so can take one of the warrior classes that does not get 3x speed without extra squares. So one thing I noticed with monk was if you can unlock the squares you get the top white mage spells and if your combining mages the white/time mage is the ultimate support/healer. so using monk is practically as good as adding white mage (eventually) but then also you get the monk combat benefits which are substantial. monk is the class that is pretty nice with every class as it has all the combat and hp squares. So now you have a class combo that eventually will be as good an endgame support/healer/tank/warrior as your going to get. I saw another guy talking about how he stumbled across this mix but basically if it was an mmo this would be the class combo I would choose for my character.
ok so we have 4 character and 8 classes used and actually we already said penelo was going to get black mage. At this point there is only one warrior class that gets 3x speed easily and that is the machinist. its not bad. nice having a range alternative for black mage but it sorta necessary as it does not bring a lot of tankiness. mystic robes help darkshot. easy access to steal and poach. probably the most meh of my combos but it works out fine.
ok so we are down to one character and 2 classes. This would make basch a ulan/beserker. Thing is that will only be able to unlock 3x speed when you get ultima. So im eventually going to do this but 3x speed is real important to me so for most of the game my bash is a ulan/bushi.
So I find in early game you don't need magic much class wise because the girls give you white mage and fran black mage first level spells. I put everyone as their class that gives the 3x speed and make a race for those squares just getting equipment/spells thats I can access as more a priority which continues into the dual boards. Ultimately 4 of the 4 characters can heal/support to greater and lesser extent and everyone is a good warrior and to some extend tank with the squishiest ones having ranged attacks and offensive spells a plenty. The espers get spread out decently to.
