Tough sell when the master chief collection exist and works.

[-] VerilyFemme@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 3 weeks ago

Don't give them any delisting ideas

[-] Daveyborn@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

I imagine it'd atleast wait until ODST, Reach, and 4 get one. Trying not to let my negative side win.

[-] d00ery@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Lol, guess what's going to be delisted. All in the name of "a better consumer experience"...

[-] warm@kbin.earth 12 points 3 weeks ago

Please dont. They are fine how they are. We don't need anymore UE5 slop.

[-] mfbatz@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

I completely agree with you, but I can’t help but wonder why they chose UE5 over id Tech as both devs are under the same Microsoft umbrella.

[-] warm@kbin.earth 1 points 3 weeks ago

UE5 is a buzzword. Also easier to outsource cheap development on a popular engine, easier to hire devs, dont have to spend money teaching them new stuff.

Big gaming is in such a sorry state. Buy indies.

Well, considering 343 from what I understand hires contractors almost exclusively, UE5 is probably the only engine any of their devs will be familiar with as I don't think the id tech engine is available for developers outside of Microsoft and I'd software? Though I might be wrong on that!

[-] warm@kbin.earth 2 points 3 weeks ago

343 spent years developing a new engine, Slipspace. They even hyped it up with the release of Halo Infinite.

Then they told us they were moving to UE5, which pretty much cemented the fate of Halo. They could have spent time training people to use it, but considering they were doing that contractual work, then they would have to keep retraining them. That sort of development will never lead to a good game anyway, which is why we are getting remakes nobody asked for.

I'm confused, having never got into Halo at all. Isn't that was the Master Chief collection was?

Edit: got it, Remake vs Remaster, thanks, kind humans!

As the other comment said, the MCC was a remaster. Most of the changes were cosmetic, to the point where it actually had a button to switch between original and remaster graphics, since it was the original engine running everything. The level design, mechanics, weapons, and such were all untouched.

The new Halo remake is a completely different game made in Unreal 5. Already from what has been shown it is very divergent from the original in many ways. This announcement is an intention to do that for the other games.

[-] VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

No. MCC mostly just ported the games to newer hardware and to PC. They eventually updated the game logic to operate at 60 ticks per second instead of 30 and added some new customization options, and it included from launch the graphical remasters of Halo 1 and 2, but it was really just ports and patches with a unified launcher.

What they're doing now is remaking the Halo 1 campaign from the ground up. New engine, new code, redesigned levels, new levels, etc.

[-] NutinButNet@hilariouschaos.com 1 points 3 weeks ago

Pretty much. But this new one is being done in a new engine (Unreal) and a lot of it is being done by AI. Two things that weren’t being done before, certainly on the MCC.

[-] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 4 points 3 weeks ago

Fuuuuuck. I completely missed that information. Well my most likely skipping just solidified.

[-] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 4 points 3 weeks ago

Most of my friends were Halo diehards. After the studio kept silent on the ICE memes we've sworn them off. Gonna be real interesting to see if others do the same for these cash grabs

[-] TommySoda@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Oh, man. There's so much shit on a daily basis I completely forgot about that. Honestly there's not really a point to buy the Halo campaigns again. 1 and 2 already got remade once and the rest hold up pretty well in my opinion.

[-] Bubs@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 weeks ago

That's why we sail the seven seas and play them for free :3

[-] foodvacuum@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

I wouldn't be surprised if the combat evolved remake does worse than the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake. Halo CE fans are a well served fanbase. It's just that they have flubbed every mainline game in some way after Reach. I don't see the Halo appetite around the internet. Not at all in my old friends from the OG Xbox and PC Halo lan party days

[-] zipzoopaboop@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 3 weeks ago

Reach was the last one made by Bungie. 343/halo studios has no idea what they are doing

[-] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 1 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah i was a massive halo fan growing up, still like the setting and books but I played 5 once and never touched infinite.

Just the other week I was playing reach with my brother that odst and the og trilogy are amazing the rest I couldn't care

[-] gustofwind@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

You’ll need a consumer dumber than me to pay extra for a high def reslop of the original collection

[-] comrade19@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Can all you negative people see some positive for others? You dont have to play it and its not replacing anything. Im excited personally and it will be a reason to reconnect with friends. You can all stick with the previous versions.

[-] cyborganism@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 weeks ago

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but Halo wasn't that great a game honestly. The campaigns were boring. Levels were repetitive. The story wasn't that great and it had this weird sickening American patriotic feel.

The multi-player part was awesome though.

[-] FilthyHands@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

I'm with you. To me the biggest innovation (besides console mp) was getting fps controls right for gamepads. I also like that it popularized a limited weapon carry. Health regen is a mixed bag for me, and it definitely got overused in other games of that era.

If I didn't have a PC at the time, I could see myself enjoying Halo more. When I got around to playing CE on xbox, I was underwhelmed. I thought Halo 2 was more fun, but the pop-in was so bad I think I skipped all the cutscenes. Like you said though, the mp was always a blast.

[-] Zahille7@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Yup. Makes sense. I mean "Campaign Evolved" is about as blatant as a cashgrab you can get.

[-] TwinTitans@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Halo 2 anniversary has some of the best looking cutscenes ever. It’s already a perfectly done game. No need do anything
