The big issue I don't see talked about enough is how the image of masculinity is set by advertising. There are traits that have been traditionally masculine for generations, sure, but linking those traits to actions is a role western society has abdicated to advertisers.
There's no genetic reason a big truck is masculine. That was sold by advertisers. For a while there actually, conserving nature was viewed as a masculine responsibility.
