You tipically don't interrupt your enemies when they're about to make a mistake. Any kind of military intervention in Venezuela will be a massive disaster for the US, we no longer live in a world where you can silence an entire nation. Even heavily controlled environments like Gaza is impossible to silence, let alone a place as big as Venezuela.

They'll probably issue some very strongly worded letters and condenn the war multiple times in the UN. But on a more serious note, I believe they'll mostly stick to blocking the UN (and specially the security council) as a platform for the war, and veto usage of its resources. They'll probably play the long game with other geopolitical allies, like Colombia if it comes out of NATO now that it's on BRICS to prevent the same thing happening again.

China's militant non-interventionism is probably partly why they are able to survive as a socialist powerhouse by using those resources instead domestically and in trade relations such as BRI, having learned the mistakes from the USSR.

Rationally I understand why they do what they do but given personal powerlessness idealistically it feels less than satisfying. If with Palestine the best they can do is what they did then that's a probably a good barometer of how far they are willing to stick their neck out here.

Venuzuela will need to drastically reshape their economy into a war economy (if they haven't already done so), if not a dictatorship of the proleteriat, and the quickest cheapest way (getting that investment, technology share, population upskilling, going up the value chain in manufacture, and most importantly targeted poverty alleviation) is probably with deepening further relations with China but as we have learned in the past - with countries relying on the likes of Soviet Union - it is a big gamble to put more of your eggs in one basket.

Unfortunately I think the article is correct in that China currently won’t do much materially if the US attacks Venezuela. 😔

If it was closer in its sphere of influence (and more importantly closer where it’s navy could reach) it would be a different but with the distance it makes the logistics very difficult.
