Considering how the country’s political system likes to bend over to companies to keep making undeserving removed richer, I had given myself false hope they’d choose differently

I think it more has to do with the fact that the US borders them and a particularly rabid set of rulers is currently at the wheel.

Frankly I don't blame Mexico for capitulating to the US from the position they're in. Its an unenviable situation, being neighbors with the imperial hedgomon currently announcing the revival of a policy which declares they have sovereignty over your decisions.
