Isn't it great how all the western businesses killed remote work? It's going to be so exciting to die of the plague so that some oligarchs real estate assets didn't tank.

On the other side, if this happens it's ending the western economy. Plain and simple. Covid damn near did it. Bird flu will be so much worse.

Yeah I agree. This wouldn't just be a simple sequel to covid, it'd be something far more dangerous.
Imagine an economy already leveled by the AI bubble popping, then imagine one where people are literally too afraid to go to work because there's a 50/50 chance of them and their whole family getting sick and dying. It would be a modern Plague of Justinian.

I feel like Canadians will not handle a bird flu pandemic well considering how people reacted to the culling of an Ostrich farm in BC due to the presence of avian flu.

Canadian chud media went insane framing this culling as an evil act by the government when it was unfortunately necessary due to the threat that this virus causes.

If the government tries to enforce a bird flu pandemic protocol then I am sure people will go as insane as they did during COVID’s initial phases.

I'll move to China if this happens

[-] demerit@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 3 days ago

Bird Flu has such a high lethality rate, China is not going to let anyone in.

How? Will they accept asylum?

[-] cayde6ml@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 3 days ago

From what I read and am planning, possibly.

Given the amount of morons I see who cough without covering their mouth, the next pandemic is going to be so much worse. A lot of people took offence at being asked to think about others, I think next time they'll go out of their way to be as selfish as possible.

[-] demerit@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 3 days ago

Its worse since people wont accept preventive measures and immune systems are destroyed by the covid pandemic. It will absolutely be a mass death event aka the black death.

[-] p0ntyp00l@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 3 days ago

They'll die then.
This isn't covid, this is far far worse. When covid began I was grateful that it wasn't bird flu. There won't be any space for that kind of quibbling when over HALF the people getting sick die. No chance of just covering it up and getting people back to work. It'd be like the 1918 pathogen, whole families wiped out. It's absolutely the worst case scenario in terms of pandemics that could realistically happen.

Oh wonderful, and after covid the US hamstrung its ability to respond to a pandemic ever for some reason

[-] sibachian@lemmy.ml 10 points 4 days ago

God help us all if it does. We're talking about a fatality rate upwards of 50%.

USA! USA!

If tariffs and export restrictions for medicine didn't exist, there wouldn't be an outbreak. Nowadays, Global South countries are finding ways to curb the outbreak and formulate medicine in cooperation with China.
