It's like a new thing shows up every day. I wonder what will happen this Saturday?

  • January 3rd: Maduro taken from Venezuela.
  • January 4th: Greenland Premier states that Greenland is (edit: autonomous country) of Denmark.
  • January 5th: Venezuela gets their interim president.
  • January 6th: Venezuela confirms a number of wounded during the 1/3 attack.
  • January 7th: The MN shooting.
  • January 8th: Two people are shot by DHS agents in Portland. Also, Iran protests get much more intense.
  • January 9th: New video and discovery of "fucking bitch".

It's been a long year, and I'm learning there are actually 52 years in a year.

[-] TommySoda@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

People on the right are saying that when he puts his phone down to pull out his gun that that's when he gets hit by the car. It's like they've forgotten every other video out there and assume this is bodycam footage so the camera moving automatically means he's getting hit. A lot of people are saying that the audio was tampered with too so I wouldn't be surprised if they added some sound effects to make it seem like he got hit full force.

The lack of critical thinking is honestly insane.

[-] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

These are the same people that say Jan 6 was peaceful despite hundreds of hours of video, thousands of photos, and witness testimony proving otherwise.

It's not a critical thinking issue (at least not this time). It's being willing to lie, cheat, and steal to get their way, no matter what.

[-] MuskyMelon@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Video and audio of the three shots from the other video is not in this cam video so yeah, it's been tampered with.

Considering this video was so quickly released, it's probably been whitewashed.

[-] tidderuuf@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

They really are rejecting reality. We have other footage showing him barely getting brushed by it at a relatively low speed. He fires 2 more shots through the driver's side window and then calls her a bitch. It's damning and a jury will decide his fate.

[-] Skyrmir@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

The challenge right now is getting him in front of a jury.

[-] HeadfullofSoup@kbin.earth 2 points 2 weeks ago

Maybe someone will bring justice to him

[-] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 weeks ago

It'll never happen. Not until MAGA is gone.

Fortunately there is no statute of limitation on murder.

[-] Slashme@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Sure, but there is double jeopardy, and with the FBI freezing local law enforcement out of the investigation, they could easily toss him a softball.

Yeah, that certainly could be the FBI's gameplan here. Withhold evidence while the outrage is fresh and there is pressure to charge, beat the case, and then the murderer has the typical right-wing epilogue and runs for Congress.

[-] Madison420@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

It doesn't need to, Minnesota submits warrants to ice, dhs, doj and the last three known addresses for the shooter and they've satisfied the in absentia exception and they can then complete a trial without him. If convicted he'll risk arrest and imprisonment and they can't leave the country, most other countries won't accept anyone with an active felony case let alone conviction and they'd probably enjoy the extradition.

[-] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 weeks ago

The Vice President of the United States of America has literally said the ICE chud is owed a "debt of gratitude". That's after it was clear that he murdered someone.

And you think he won't be specifically protected as a signal to all other ICE chuds? The guy is set for life. They have to make sure he is. Otherwise it's going to be a lot harder to convince them to kill people when they're specifically asked to.

[-] Madison420@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah stupid people say stupid things, what exactly about that is new or surprising, moreover what does it change?

They can protect him from federal charges but not state ones or they would wipe state sovereignity and all the big guns and fun weapons are on the coasts.

You think he'll be taken into custody? Lol!!!

The guy has the blessing of the White House, he's a hero.

And it's exactly that, that demonstrates we have finally crossed the Rubicon. Decent people with functioning brains can see this whole thing was unjustified, and that this is murder.

Yet social media is FULL of bootlickers blaming the victim. Most of them are bots and trolls.

But not all of them. And every one of those people? They're prospective ICE agents. In America or wherever American rules will be enforced going forward. Those are the only people they are creating a narrative for now.

Bottom line? These are not people who are even trying to win elections anymore......they are openly lying while challenging the status quo on every law, political precedent, etc they can manage. This is a significant change (they've lied plenty, but never this nakedly).

That change? They finally reached the point where they are confident they can do whatever they want now, and fully have the reins of power permanently.

Why are they rushing to hire ICE agents and throwing everything they can at enticing people to join up? While so obviously pandering to the exact people who would want to sign up?

I've been saying it for fucking months and months..... but we're getting close now. Just have to keep firing the top brass in the military (install puppets/ remove threat of coup), encouraging hazing and abuse in the military along with kicking out queer people (pander to right wing homophobes while skewing the military right wing by making the military hostile to "liberals"), spreading our military forces far and wide (Venezuela, go! Iran, go! Tomorrow Greenland, go!) and thin.....

Guess we'll see

Its not lack of critical thinking.

It is motivated reasoning.

They're using their brains, they're using them to justify atrocities, by unmaking the atrocity into something else.

They're thinking critically, but without the concept of arriving at a conclusion that seems to make sense, they are instead doing it backwards; scrambling for narratives and lines of reasoning that avoid the obvious conclusion and obvious evidence.

... this is evil.

I literally cannot think of a better definition of evil then starting from knowing you are wrong and then doing everything you can to gaslight yourself and others into not thinking you are wrong.

The Minnesota Fraternal Order of Police or whatever they fuck their little piggy club is called, who issued a statement explicitly denying reality and reframing this as a PR problem for people who don't support the unwarranted first degree murder of civillians?

Literally evil.

These people are not redeemable, they are fundamentally broken, violent, dangerous sociopaths.

[-] selokichtli@lemmy.ml 0 points 2 weeks ago

I agree except I don't think they know they are wrong. If anything, it seems they know they are right in their heads, and that's everything they care about.

[-] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Perhaps, but, counterpoint:

Anyone who look at this, and has.the genuine stance that this was justified?

Entirely seriously:

Such a person is significantly mentally disabled, and also a sociopath, and belongs in a mental institution.

[-] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 3 points 2 weeks ago

This video shows that there is no doubt that this was a straight up murder. The officer had his phone in his hand when he murdered her and we can see from his OWN perspective that he was in no danger whatsoever.

[-] areakode@riskeratspizza.com 0 points 2 weeks ago

Jesus. I had assumed that video was from a body cam. Instead, it's taken from his left hand!

[-] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 0 points 2 weeks ago

Yep. You can actually see that he is holding his phone in one hand in the original angles. He didn't even drop it when he shot her.

[-] sik0fewl@piefed.ca 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Incredible composure. While fearing for his life he was able to get out of the way of the slowly turning vehicle, get four shots off and record the whole thing on his cell phone.

[-] neuromorph@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

No chain of evidence on that video. If thwy waited foe police and handed over thw phone. We could believe it as with less scrutiny. However syncing it up with the other 50 angles doesnt line up.

[-] DaddleDew@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

Notice how he pauses to look at the political stickers on the back of the van.

That guy was aching for a pretext to shoot her. Once he thought he had it he went for it and shot multiple times when the vehicle couldn't even hit him anymore.

[-] frog_brawler@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

Those aren't political stickers, they're mostly stickers for parks, and there was one for the Kansas City soccer team.

[-] Denalduh@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

That's giving the asshat too much credit to know the difference between them.

[-] frog_brawler@lemmy.world -1 points 2 weeks ago

This is Lemmy, so I'll be downvoted, but this video does change my opinion on things a bit (not enough to change my mind about he should not have shot her).

The narrative that she was going home after dropping her kid off at school seems like at best, a partial truth at this point. Maybe they stopped to film ICE because they happened to come across ICE activity while on the way home? I'm speculating, I don't know. I still cannot understand exactly why they were stopped there to begin with, unless simply to film ICE... but she had a right to do that.

That being said, and what the video still does not explain is what the other vehicle is that's opposite from the one the ICE people pulled up in. The murderer didn't get out of that silver/gold SUV (left of her Maroon Honda), so was the murderer's vehicle the one that was on the other side of her SUV? Did she put her vehicle in between two ICE agent vehicles while they were in the middle of doing one of their kidnappings? That's a problematic decision if so.

I also think it's reasonable to believe that he felt his life was in danger; but that he put himself into that situation because he's a fucking dumbass.

[-] Slashme@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

If he felt that his life was in danger from a car, shooting at it wouldn't reduce the danger. The only thing a pedestrian armed with a pistol can do to avoid getting run over by a car within short range is to get out of its way.

[-] null@piefed.nullspace.lol -1 points 2 weeks ago

Jesse, what the fuck are you talking about?

[-] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social -1 points 2 weeks ago
[-] frog_brawler@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

I bet you didn't even read my full comment, or any of my other comments.

[-] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social -1 points 2 weeks ago

I read your whole comment, but I have actually met my quota for reading shit written by idiots for today so I stopped there before reading the rest of your greatest hits.

[-] frog_brawler@lemmy.world -1 points 2 weeks ago

You're the part of the left that got Trump elected, so I could not give a shit less about your nonsense. If I needed any shit from you, I'd scrape it off your teeth.

[-] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 0 points 2 weeks ago

If being opposed to ICE agents murdering people in the streets is too far left for you , then it sounds like I made a pretty accurate assessment of your value. Buh bye.

[-] frog_brawler@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

I am very clearly opposed to that as well doofus, you just want to start shit because I don't agree hard enough for your liking apparently. It's either that, or you aren't fully literate.

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Unless I'm misreading you big time, ppl ITT all think you said a bunch of shit you did not say.

[-] null@piefed.nullspace.lol 0 points 2 weeks ago

No, they just said a bunch of shit.

Can you tell me what coherent point anyone is supposed to pull of that manic stream of consciousness?

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

Sometimes people can just talk. If you don't understand move on instead of making up what they mean.

[-] null@piefed.nullspace.lol 0 points 2 weeks ago

So you don't have a clue either. Got it.

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

You demonstrated that spending further time is of no value 👋

[-] null@piefed.nullspace.lol 0 points 2 weeks ago

Yes, because your time spent here has been so valuable thus far.

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

You're right. But I won't be making that mistake again with you and some others ITT

[-] null@piefed.nullspace.lol -1 points 2 weeks ago

And yet here you are back again. Couldn't resist replying after saying you were gone. But sure, your time is just sooooo valuable.

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Typical Internet response.

[-] null@piefed.nullspace.lol -1 points 2 weeks ago

Wow, back again.

So much for not wasting that suuuuuuper valuable time.

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world -1 points 2 weeks ago
