A bombshell new report from CBS News suggests that the Iranian Government has murdered between 12,000 and 20,000 protesters since the ongoing, national revolt against it began.

“Information trickling out of Iran on Tuesday suggests that a crackdown by authorities to end more than two weeks of widespread anti-government protests has likely been far more deadly than activists outside the country have reported,”

CBS is currently beholden to the Nazi's and I don't know if I trust their reporting. It would be in the US' best interest to show Iranian instability as well as how violent "real" protesting is to try and dissuade domestic ideas.

That said. If Iran is murdering 10k citizens a week, their government won't last through the end of the month. One can only hope.

Agreed.
Need an aljazeera link.

Al jazeera is literally the Qatari state media.

[-] mrdown@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

So? Is iran controlling Qatar?

[-] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

Just weird to say "I don't trust reporting from a state-influenced source. I'll wait until I hear reporting from media owned by a different state with an even more vested interest."

[-] tonyn@lemmy.ml 0 points 3 months ago

Everything is owned by someone. Al Jazeera leans left, and yes they're a state run media organization, but they're more factual than not according to ground news. Perhaps the reason Al Jazeera hasn't published the death toll is because they can't verify it and their journalistic integrity prevents them from echoing unverifiable rumors.

Qatar has much better relations with Iran than most Arab states. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran%E2%80%93Qatar_relations

Qatar is a country that try to keep an image of the country who get along with everybody that's why it has good relation with the two enemies the usa and iran.

Happening in this very thread 🙄 https://lemmy.zip/comment/23951989

Yup. Whatever's coming out of CBS on topics where Israel has vested interest, there's a good chance of hasbara. Could still be true but a bucket of salt is recommended.

20,000 soldiers were killed on the first day of the Somme in WWI which involved literally mowing down rows of soldiers with machine gun. We would see plenty of evidence if this was happening to civilians in cities even without internet.

I really, really hope the protesters succeed. Iran has such a glorious history and wonderful people - they deserve so much more. It could retake its place as the shining example of countries in the region, as it was for most of the last 5000 years.

[-] DaMummy@hilariouschaos.com 2 points 3 months ago

It doesn't happen to have anything to do with America overthrowing their government and the creation of Israel, does it?

[-] thallamabond@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

Hey now, don't leave out the UK. (And the real power, oil money)

[-] Snowclone@lemmy.world 0 points 3 months ago

We're we also destabilizing the region to harm Russia during the cold war? I forget.

Does this mean the government commenters at lemmy.ml defend isn't good?

[-] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 months ago

[-] Godric@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Fucking monsters, I hope the Iranian people string up their opressors.

I'm seeing this wave of revolts and I'm still wondering when my compatriots back home in China will finally rise up against the government... 👀

What policies or factors do you think would animate people here? Youth unemployment? Hukou?

[-] forrgott@lemmy.zip 0 points 3 months ago

To all those who keep calling for acts of violence in the US I ask: how many will Dementia Donny kill in response?

[-] Snowclone@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Look man. Some people are very willing to do everything they can with their life on the line. At some point an end to your life is preferable to the state of oppression.

I'm convinced that many of the people calling for violence from the left in response to the administration's behavior are the same ones that pushed the right into extremism over the past 30 years.

Division and chaos are the intent and they're playing both sides to achieve their goals. The last thing they want is for people to sit down and talk to each other.

[-] Snowclone@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

No one on the left has anything to do with the violence that's a core tenant of fascism and capitalism or corpratism if you want to get real specific. No one is egging the proud boys on, anymore than black folks existing was the cause of KKK bombings and terrorist attacks. These people aren't responding to anything, this has always been their goal.

Do you believe you have good reasons for thinking so?

I would be interested in seeing you lay out what convinced you. It seems to me that the only thing these calls for violence have in common is just that: they are calls to violence. How can you possibly draw any parallels beyond that without completely minimizing how unprecedented a situation it is we find ourselves in?

It abso-fucking-lutely smells like manufactured messaging. Aka propaganda.
