A social media post from the Department of Labor is attracting criticism for appearing to echo a Nazi-era slogan from the early 20th century.

The department posted to X on Jan. 10, "One Homeland. One People. One Heritage. Remember who you are, American."

Dozens of users commented and reposted, expressing alarm and outrage over what they called an alarming echo of what the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum describes as one of the central slogans used by Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party. That slogan is, "One People, One Realm, One Leader."

Wat? One day you have both the Department of Labor and the Department of Homeland security throw Nazi slogans? WTF

[-] wheezy@lemmy.ml 17 points 1 week ago

At what point will people stop being shocked? I'm really not trying to be the annoying "not surprised guy". But, it's been just shy of a year since we were watching a Nazi salute from one of our billionaire lords as Trump took office.

Are we gonna spend another year having surprised Pikachu reactions to every Nazi reference? We have SS troops going door to door. These posts arent rage bait. They are rallying calls.

I don’t think we’d be surprised if it was one of the obvious departments (DOD, DHS, DHHS, even what’s left of the DOE).

We just didn’t see the DOL joining in.

[-] 3abas@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

You haven't been paying enough attention it seems.

[-] vivalapivo@lemmy.today 0 points 1 week ago

Surprise is just a justification for inaction

Even if you're a dumb shit conservative who can't recognize obvious patterns, why is the Department of Labor posting nationalistic "patriotic" slogans? What does that have to do with labor?

A lot? Nationalism is deeply involved with labor on relation to protectionist policies and whether to have them or not. That's not to excuse how much they've fucked the department in the ass though

[-] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 week ago

Really bending over backward to sanewash the fascism. Protectionism is pretty far afield from touting heritage and homeland. Lots of diverse immigrant union members on board with protectionism and almost never for nationalistic reasons.

Politely, I'm in a very diverse union. You're underestimating their like for America

So this time we finish the job on these Nazis?

Anyone? Anyone? Anyone? Anti... fascist is correct.

[-] HasturInYellow@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

There can be no other response. We must FINISH the job. No coddling of "the good ones" or giving the ringleader new jobs in the new gov.

I want the whole lot thrown into a whole and cement poured over it.

“Under Fire” I wish because they’re literally Nazis. Under fire is what Nazis deserve but in this instance I’m sure it means someone pointed it out and they pretended to be offended

Remember who you are, American

Ugh don’t remind me

[-] eletes@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

If you ever talk to a Nazi/hardcore racist, you'll see they love dog whistles and inane symbology. This is exactly what they would do, like the CPAC stage being the shape of a rune. They've always been here snickering at what they sneaked in.

[-] MutantTailThing@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Aw balls not Reich again.

[-] MuskyMelon@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

"Work shall set you free. "

That's gonna appear sometime.

[-] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 1 points 1 week ago

That sounds really… economically anxious

What the heck is the caption about Graham Platner doing here?

[-] breakfastmtn@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

I updated the archive link. The caption's gone now.

[-] breakfastmtn@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

Oh weird. It looks like maybe it was a mistake they corrected. It's on the archived page but not the actual page.

[-] DaMummy@hilariouschaos.com 1 points 1 week ago

Wtf? How am I supposed to joke about this? It's so on the nose, it's practically Nazi propaganda about Jewish noses.

[-] ryannathans@aussie.zone -4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

That feels like a bit of a stretch, is any post encouraging the country to put differences aside and act as one people now anti semetic?

[-] saigot@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

One Heritage

Which heritage, Because I don't think your average american identifies much with the Cree.

[-] 4am@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

… do you think we call them Nazis because we think they’re antisemitic?

[-] ryannathans@aussie.zone 0 points 1 week ago

No the article literally quotes the holocaust museum

[-] BigDiction@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

This is the part you’re referencing this part above right? It’s the “One Homeland” and “One Heritage” parts that really cause concern in the Reich rhetoric department. Particularly one heritage. America is famously a melting pot.

[-] ryannathans@aussie.zone 1 points 1 week ago

Ah gotcha, my interpretation of "One Heritage" is maybe generous in that it's that regardless of where you were originally from you're American
