Now we know why centaur boy doesn't have any friends.
Ya mean it's not because he's half-horse?
Sure. The not-horse part is the problem.
Nah man, that's cool as hell! Everybody would want to be his friend for that!
Source: My own work.
A nerd who shies away from some technical complexity, is he truly a nerd? I wouldn't think so.
talk to people like they are humans. find a way to convey to them the things you care about.
not all people even know they should somewhat care about the "surveillance state" and "late stage capitalism", or what these things even are.
If only a boy who is half-horse would listen!
we don't.
ai check
With you here. Why does the non centaur kid's hair style change so much in every panel. On the 2nd panel it's pointed spikes and bangs swept left, 3rd it's non spiky hair with cut bangs swept right and then in the final panel it's a rounded tip style of spikes differing from the pointy spikes in the 2nd panel with non cut bangs facing to the left again. This leads to me believing that this wasn't drawn but generated as this line work isn't hard for a human to keep track of and keep consistent but an AI can struggle with.
Sorry if it turns out you just can't draw hair consistently but this deviation in hair styles is making your art clearly look like AI if it's not.
Non-horse kid is weird because "he" was a girl when I drew this strip originally, and changed it up on computer in post. The girl is actually from my other comic series, and her attitude doesn't fit. Because I am turned Centaur Boy into a douchebag. Also why weird cropping in last frame. And why the boy's face still looks like a girl. I didn't want to redraw, so I did stitch up in post.
If this was going to real print, I'd work harder. But it's Lemmy and I like putting the stuff out there fast and quick. You'll also see the version on .blaha where someone crossposted before I noticed my cut and paste in bottom was off in sizing. So it looks different than this one.
Brah, think about it: if AI was what I used, then I would have just told it to fix it. I've already put my steps up in my comm with pics of my process and screen caps of my photopea layers set up.
I'm happy to talk process, storytelling, scripting, fuckups, etc, tho. Especially if u are a fellow cartoonist! But you're reading way too deeply into it. I sketch my shit, magic maker a bit, take a pic w my phone, take onto computer, fill solids, add dusty overlay and specks, and post. It ain't that deep. It ain't that good. And it ain't ai.
Try it. Go tell ai to make a comic about a horseboy. I'm sure it'll do a better job than I did! lol
EDIT: Young Lemmy really really needs to look into the 1960's underground alt art movement. Mickey mouse fucking and eating ass (air pirates), betty boop being a slut, the scribbles of Jimbo, and weirdness of Raw. Also a lot of examples of using cheesy art to be sarcastic and wild. Any of that shit was posted now, you'd all cry ai. Someone the other day bitched that my art was too ugly to be created by a person (thanks!), and obviously he had never seen the Far Side, or the Oblongs or the original Addams Family strip from way before the tv show. Seriously, just wikipedia "Underground Comix." Oh and go discover a punk comic called "Jimbo," cuz uh... cuz that artist is GOAT!
Apart from all the right things you say, this may be wrong:
if AI was what I used, then I would have just told it to fix it
People posting AI don't always care to even ask for fixing. But it's an interesting that now every inconsistency an artist makes tends to be attributed to AI (like there were never any inconsistencies or mistakes before)
From my studio for my other series: https://reddthat.com/post/58650560
And another session showing my process in studio: https://reddthat.com/post/58923858
come on brother you're telling me you make your comics by hand and just happen to switch your entire art style to the most chatgpt sloppa coded stuff imaginable at random
I have several styles, and showed you how I do it, I also do Kloop!, Krunn and Frank, Beyond 8100, Ashtray Gospel, Snibbles, Pen!shedd, Anarkizt Kid, Man with a Casey's Cup for a Hand, It's Jayce!, Poopdeck Pappy, among others for my local alt weekly's in real life. I've been around and illustrating long before ai. If you wanna see ai slop in everything you look at brother, then that's on you.
I'm retired and I do lemmy comics for free to add content. So you liking or not liking my stuff makes no significant difference to me.
Trust me, I've had way meaner comments directed toward my stuff than an accusation of ai! Welcome to the art life for all the kiddies out there. lol Carry on, man. We're all gonna make it out ok. :)
EDIT: Wait till you see the crap I'm working on today and tomorrow. You'll hate it! lolol
And new one posted today, and behind scenes from the studio. Different style too! https://reddthat.com/post/58923858
So you aren't an artist are you? Because you just seem to have a strange sense of how art is done. Especially cartooning. Lots of us change up styles all the time for different series.
