skip this step and just work there. maybe steal something if they don't want to pay you.

I’m out there, Jerry, and I’m lovin’ every minute of it!

[-] Marshezezz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 months ago

What’s in the briefcase?

I did that once and it legitimately spurred another outreach from the COO at the time (small company) which then led to me being allowed to make a case for my hiring again and actually led to a job offer. So you never know?

[-] drcobaltjedi@programming.dev 38 points 3 months ago

I did it once, the first time they just sent a no email. The sub cond time the hiring manager messaged me on LinkedIn a bit annoyed telling me no again. I looked them up recently as I was recently fired and I don't think that company exists anymore.

[-] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 3 months ago

I guess you dodged a bullet then!

[-] Rolder@reddthat.com 15 points 3 months ago

Maybe the company wouldn’t have died if they hired him!

[-] balsoft@lemmy.ml 33 points 2 months ago

The absolute worst case is that you slightly annoy the HR/TA at the company and they reject you again with a slightly annoyed letter.

Most likely case is that the same garbage AI system that rejected you the first time just rejects you again.

And best-case you get your case heard again and get hired, even if just for the perseverance.

So I don't see why not, an employment relationship is not like personal relationships where "no means no", it's not like you're stalking the company.

[-] anonymouse2@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 months ago

Can it be like I'm stalking the company? I mean, if companies are persons now, I wouldn't mind being such a pain in the ass that a company takes out a restraining order on me.

[-] Honytawk@feddit.nl 1 points 2 months ago

hides in nearby tree waiting for the next applicant so I can karate chop their balls to prevent them from applying

Nobody will get the job except me.

[-] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 13 points 3 months ago

Once applied for job didn't get it. Months later tenp agency sent me out to the same job. Had that job for 6 years before it closed.

I once applied to the same position I was fired from. They let me go for refusing to return to office towards the tail end of COVID. Advertised the position as 100% remote, so I figured they'd come to their senses. Never heard from them. 🤣

[-] jubilationtcornpone@sh.itjust.works 19 points 2 months ago

The people who sign the paychecks don't like having to admit that one of the peons was right.

[-] Chais@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 months ago

I know. That position had a particularly obnoxious marketing person in a technical lead position. No idea how they ended up there.

Something tells me you're from the US. How is this legal?

[-] Chais@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago

I was in Canada at the time. Not sure what that changes.

[-] MisterFrog@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Ah heck, sorry about that one regardless. Those bastards

[-] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 17 points 3 months ago

I did that and got an email saying that I had already applied for the job.

[-] abbadon420@sh.itjust.works 17 points 3 months ago

That sounds promising. A company that does good bookkeeping. I'd wanna work there.

[-] IronBird@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

it's a wonder anything gets done at all, when you see how seemingly 99% of business is conducted

[-] hessenjunge@discuss.tchncs.de 16 points 2 months ago

Maybe that job does not exist and the job listings are just there to make the company appear thriving and growing.

[-] MrNesser@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Some companies have a policy to advertise a job even if they are giving the job internally.

[-] hessenjunge@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 2 months ago

Usually that works differently: Hiring managers may be required (by law or upper management) to advertise a job publicly but make sure „their“ candidate, which may also be external, gets the job.

However this does not fit ops scenario as they would neither need nor want to advertise twice.

Anyone else read "I've come to bargain" and hear Cumberbatch in your head?

[-] Noodle07@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

~~DORMAMU~~ Applebee's ! I've come to bargain

[-] roserose56@lemmy.zip 12 points 2 months ago

Did you follow up with an email? Did you do a deep search of the company and the person doing the interview? Did you smile during your interview? Did you ask about salary?

[-] TheOakTree@lemmy.zip 15 points 2 months ago

Did you tickle their balls while you sucked on their toes? Anything for a job these days.

[-] roserose56@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Bonus points if you bring a 1995 Chateau d'Agassac.

This made me laugh. Go for it. Waste their time. Give me the job description and I'll do the same.

[-] Apytele@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 months ago

I thank my lucky stars every day that I picked a field where this has basically never been a problem. Is it horrible stressful bullshit that no one in their right mind wants to do? Sure. But when one employer finally properly pisses me off I can spend the night applying to other jobs, go home to sleep for the day, and wake up to 3+ interview requests in my voicemail and have offers by the end of the week.

Never taking a sign on bonus again though. That was some predatory shit. If I wanted to get another job before August I would have to get the next one to cover it (but it wouldn't be hard, I'd probably even net positive, I just don't wanna get trapped in a cycle of it).

I will say though I mentioned to the clinical lead that my contract for that bonus is up this year and her eyes briefly widened in panic. People act like she lets me get away with whatever I want and like yeah. I'm doing like three different specific things she does NOT want to have to replace or do herself. And every time I get bored and do a side project for the night she gets partial credit for "promoting innovation" or whatever. And there's only like one specific thing I'm a little shit about and I do everything else at a level no one else holds a candle to so 💅

[-] 100_kg_90_de_belin@feddit.it 7 points 2 months ago

I didn't hear no bell

[-] Odehl@midwest.social 6 points 2 months ago

I literally got my last job this way. 4th one and I got a formal follow up and was hired. Seems like their Agentic HR system was just incompetent though.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 2 months ago

ive seen then do on several occasion, reject, post the same job like 6months later with more requirements, then tested it again they added more requirements the next time.
