When the author is detestable enough to have scores of former fans go out of their way to make the story radioactive, that does put a damper on efforts to carry it forward.
Basically. Even I probably wouldn’t give a shit, but still enjoy the nostalgia of Harry Potter if JK Rowling didn’t turn into the same people she was criticizing when she wrote the Dursleys.
It would be very funny if nobody watches the HBO reboot. I think they'll manage to drum up enough nostalgia for the first three seasons to do well. Maybe a reverse GoT where instead of growing into a cultural phenomena it shrinks into this niche thing. In a panic about losing viewership, Netfilx-HBO starts changing things from the books and kills off the nostalgia interest too.
Sadly, even if it's complete trash it'll probably be a success. See Hogwarts Legacy.
