Indie game ? Thank a lot ππ
Alright, lets do this.
I have been playing around with setting up my own little PieFed instance: https://nord.red, the one Iβm posting from now. Set it up in the weekend and Iβm kind of surprised how smooth the process was.
Why? Mostly for fun, but also because I feel like I would like to contribute what I can to there being non-American alternatives to Social media available, especially with the current climate and the appearance of increased censorship on Reddit. With about a decade of experience in systems administration and DevOps, and with a decent amount of free cash flow I thought perhaps this is something to try out and see where it leads.
I don't have any specific goal other than it being a "Nordic Reddit" and a gateway to the fediverse.. but I know there are already at least feddit.nu and feddit.dk (and probably for Norway and Finland as well) and I don't want to fracture a already small communities.
For now the setup is a bit experimental, as in its completely dependent on a single computer in perhaps non-ideal conditions⦠but I do have a pretty solid plan for scaling it up (i. e. getting hosts from Hetzner in Finland)
Should I commit to this? I dunno, probably not as I have like 2 weeks of experience of the Fediverse π
More instances are always a good thing. Gives people choice and decentralizes the fediverse. I decided to self-host PieFed for myself after being on Lemmy for 2 years. I won't open registration for other people, that would be too stressful for me. But if you want to reach more people, you should consider adding your instance to piefed.social's instance chooser. It's an option in the admin panel of your instance.
Welcome to the fediverse :)
I have indeed seen that option, and I think I will eventually, I just have some things I want to sort out first. Like making sure I have Rules and Policies setup, that Topics are set up, and I have migrated to more proper hosting (at least to the point where I can scale out from a single server with little to no downtime).

Can you imagine, years ago how the internet was before? We know Facebook, Twitter, Tiktok, Youtube. We knew blogger, Tumblr, Skyrock... and long before, it was the forum era as phpBB..and mail-lists.
And now with ActivityPub, we are reshaping the web, and achieving much more with lots of freedom. So thank you all, and welcome π€π
