The lyrics criticize President Trump and include references to Alex Pretti and Renee Good, who were fatally shot by federal agents this month.

30 years from now, republicans will use this song at their rallys thinking it glorifies "the good ol' days"

Not a chance in hell. If you listen to the song he’s channeling a lot of Woodie Guthrie energy and dragging Trump and Miller. I hope he goes on the late night shows to support this song because you know if does he’s gonna have Woodie’s graffiti on his guitar [This Machine Kills Fascists]

I think your underestimating how little facists actually care about truth and meaning. They will ABSOLUTELY try to play anything that they like at their nazi events, just like they tried to play Rage Against The Machine at Alt-Right rallies. They ain't actually internalizing ANYTHING meaningful about the media they consume, they just love the aesthetics.

If you listen to the song

An understandable but unfortunately dubious assumption to grant Trump's base.

[-] Hazmatastic@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

A play on their over-use of Born in the USA thinking it's actually saying good things about American society. They clearly didn't listen to the lyrics on that one either

[-] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 weeks ago

They probably think Mellencamp's "Pink Houses" is patriotic too...

[-] lka1988@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

Exactly. All they hear is the catchy hook.

I've been wondering where all the protest songs are. There should be dozens of popular ones at once like in the late 60s and early 70s. Then I realized that they are right there - where we left them.

In response, Mr. Trump wrote on social media that Mr. Springsteen “ought to KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT” and called for a “major investigation” into the artist.

Ah, Trump's typical response to anyone criticizing him.

[-] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

Investigation for fucking what? Let's investigate the EPSTEIN FILES.

[-] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 4 points 3 weeks ago

Anyone who doesn't recognize the blatant fascism at this point is hopeless...

"Abigail Jackson, a White House spokeswoman, said in a statement that “the Trump administration is focused on encouraging state and local Democrats to work with federal law enforcement officers on removing dangerous criminal illegal aliens from their communities — not random songs with irrelevant opinions and inaccurate information.”

This fucking cunt. I guess those 5 years old they kidnapped must have been cold blooded criminals.

[-] WindyRebel@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah, likely. Such a Chucky. The landscapers two blocks from my house that were taken were also murderers.

/s because it’s needed these days.

Fuck the ever living shit out of ICE! I really hope all of these fucks in this administration feel pain at some point for everything that they’ve caused.

[-] lka1988@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 weeks ago

Can't wait for racist assholes 20 years from now to completely misinterpret this song as a celebration song.

The song is fire too Stop what you’re doing and take a listen I got chills at the end with the fade out to chants of ICE OUT.
