Wasn't there a Black Mirror episode about this

[-] nutbutter@discuss.tchncs.de 21 points 4 days ago

Kind of. In that episode the soldiers were actually mind washed, and saw victims as literally monsters. And yes, they had intercourse with someone from their imagination (I think), for their better mental health(?).

IIRC the programming not only made them see the undesirables as literally alien monsters, they also had a whole simulated happy life going on for them.

The episode ended with the protagonist being released from service going home to his nice home and loving woman, which is then revealed as still being part of the programming, showing him in peaceful bliss, alone in a wrecked, rotting poverty home.

I thought this was supposed to be satire?

[-] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 12 points 4 days ago

It is. The ice agent pictured here actually returned home and beat his Guatemalan wife.

So repulsive even the AI cringes at the thought.

"Stop insulting my girlfriend. She is definitely real and loves only me."

Not like he/she'll get praise from anyone else, something that's preprogrammed for it or a brainwashed person could only do it but he/she'd probably shoot anything living and probably needs a new phone every few days because he/she can't hold back the urge to shoot something so phone is easier to replace...
