Perhaps the single most baffling thing to me in all of this is that these people coordinate their criminal sex crimes... over gmail on their smart phones.

They all either know the NSA works for them or they've never had to think about it

op sec is for people who aren't immune to the consequences of their actions

the number of crimes of this guilty country can only be washed by heaps of blood

Friend why do you keep saying heaps lol

[-] Euergetes@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

Adam Johnson produced the grains of the heap posting

What it becomes when it congeals

The "=" is an OCR error that occurs very often in these files and presumably stands for another digit here, so I don't think this is much of a smoking gun.

It's not OCR but rather this: https://lars.ingebrigtsen.no/2026/02/02/whats-up-with-all-those-equals-signs-anyway/

I don't understand it fully but it smells right to me

Having read the article, it doesn't seem to explain anything here. They're saying the = signs are either preceding UTF-8 sequence (hex) or used to indicate newlines in sentences that exceed SMTP line length (76 characters).

y is not valid hex, so =9y isn't a UTF-8 sequence, and the line is way less than 76 characters.

I think they stripped all the emojis.

Possible explanation:

It said 😛😛😛19yo encoded as =D83D=DE1B=D83D=DE1B=D83D=DE1B=␍␊19yo, with =␍␊ added to break the line at 76 chars. Some encoding error in the export replaced ␍␊ with , and =␊1 isn’t a valid QP code. A buggy converter then incorrectly replaced it with =, leaving =9yo.

I haven’t counted the characters to see if this is plausible, but you can play with something like this to see if anything lines up: https://textmagictools.com/tools/quoted-printable-converter

If it's emoji that are being stripped, then that opens a whole load of possible missing meanings/implications in messages. Like it wouldn't surprise me if there was some kind of code where a particular emoji followed by a legal age actually means something else, like a simple age - x calculation

Although most of what I've seen in there leads me to believe that they, for the most part, weren't speaking in codes. Sometimes they smugly hint at a subject without mentioning it at all, but most of the time they're just like "yeah we'll be doing some crimes starting at 8:30pm tomorrow, make sure you're ready to do plenty of crime!"

[-] SootySootySoot@hexbear.net 4 points 1 month ago

Yeah, if emojis and other special characters have been stripped, a lot of these messages could change meaning entirely, that's a pretty big deal if so.

[-] NonWonderDog@hexbear.net 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I agree, that seems like a big deal. But this email is from 2013, the emoji keyboard was added to the iPhone internationally in 2011 to great fanfare, these are the most annoying boomers in the entire world, and I haven’t seen a single emoji in any of these emails.

In my mind it’s inconceivable that they didn’t strip the emoji. From all the =s it seems that that some poor guy at the FBI had to write a script to clean up the QP-encoded emails, too. Unicode is hard, and I’d be more surprised if they didn’t throw out everything over 7 bits.

Sure, so i assume it's about a 19 year old. Which makes it even weirder that they felt the need to retract it.

[-] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

It's probably just process to redact identifiable information of third parties.

[-] edie@lemmy.encryptionin.space 15 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It's def. not an OCR error. We'd see other classic OCR errors if it was, 1 I and l are regularly mistaken for each other. I've seen Vol. I become Vol. 1 some amount of times.

Also if it was an OCR error, then... would it be a 2? So like she was 29 yo?

Why would you run a text email through OCR?

I avoided looking at this stuff until yesterday. I want every single one of these pedophiles killed.

I recently saw a video by a trans youtuber reading some of the Epstein files about transgender people and that shit was disgusting. They see and treat trans people and kids as complete objects for their own pleasure, I felt like puking.

The people redacting have been looking at the most heinous shit imaginable 996 for almost 4 months straight now. I'm not surprised that the redactions are incredibly sloppy.

[-] purpleworm@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago

I don't think that it's just sloppiness, though clearly it's also that.

[-] Redderthanmisty@lemmygrad.ml 18 points 1 month ago

You know the exaggerated capitalist depictions of public executions during the cultural revolution?

Yeah... I think we gonna need some of that IRL for these shits.

[-] StinkySocialist@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 month ago

Lowkey I think at least one of the redactors really wrestled with it and that's why they did the redactions that didn't work. It was framed as incompetence but I think an unsung hero did it.

If these things aren't redacted by some fancy form of software... there's gotta be a fairly large hole somewhere with a bunch of unidentifiable bodies, right?
