Tesco, the UK’s dominant grocer, is the largest private-sector employer in the country. It has more than 300,000 employees across the UK and Republic of Ireland and more than 5,000 stores.

Prasad acknowledged Tesco was in “good financial health” but said the highly profitable retailer had invested an extra billion pounds in wages over the past five years.

£1 billion over five years divided between 300k workers means each worker got ~£3,333 over a five year period. That isn't as "amazing" for workers as it sounds.

...which evens out to about £666 a year per worker. Do we need more proof corporate bosses are the devil's work?

That'll certainly give the fascists another boost. Good job, UK Government.

However, Pip is not an out-of-work benefit, and economists have pointed out that overall out-of-work benefits have not risen.

My guess is that adult kids living at home with no prospects of purchasing a house have low expenses since they’re not paying rent and are sharing meals. They don’t necessarily need to draw benefits. They have little incentive to spend a lot of their time working at the grocery if their time itself feels more valuable to them than the wage and what they might purchase with it. I would probably pick up just a couple hours for spending money.

I have cancer and am living with family and this is where I am at. My needs are incredibly low because I'm just doing without a lot of stuff. I really need a bed, for example, but oh well, I am just doing without.

I want you to have a bed though:( Your body needs quality sleep.

I mean, I have a bed, it's just a hand-me-down that's 25 years old and crappy and sags in the middle, but... it's technically a bed.

Anyway, I appreciate the thought, but it's whatever. Life in the USA sucks, oh well.
