They will also attempt to blame all legal gun owners for this one crazy person. No hasty generalizations.

This is always the way it goes, and it's repugnant – once you learn that the perpetrator belongs to a marginalized group, you know that hateful individuals will use it as proof to spread their rhetoric and fan the flames.

It takes away from actual discussion of how we ensure this doesn't happen again, how we best support communities in these times, and how we as a whole can come together to begin healing.

See this is strange to me. Isn't it obvious that their hateful rhetoric is what caused this event? Yet they say that's more reason to be more hateful towards trans people??? Wtf lol.

You sow hate, you reap hate.

I highly doubt that the children this woman killed were guilty of sowing that hate, and even if they were little shits they didn't deserve this.

Remember that the white male supremacists who like to kill kids also think they are the victims in this society. Being trans doesn't mean everything a person does has to be linked to that aspect of them. It's possible to be trans and still be a shitty person, which you have to be to kill a bunch of kids.

The shooter was 18 and hasn't been in school for four years, so he left when he was 14. All of the kids he killed were 12 or 13 so 4 years ago they were 8 or 9, which is Grade 3/4. I highly doubt a 14 yr old went on a rampage because he was bullied by Grade 3/4 kids four years ago.

The tragedy is that he was very obviously VERY mentally ill. If you've seen the video of him sitting in a dark room and laughing maniacally while filming himself, its painfully clear. Which is why the police made several visits to his household for mental wellness checks and why they took away the guns in the house. The big question is why the gun were allowed to be returned when he was obviously still not well. He made posts on reddit about his confusion, aimlessness and the drugs he was taking and it was clear he was very unbalanced so why did the guns go back?

And dont get on me for calling him a he. Because his mom called him a he when she posted, 'Please watch my son's videos on youtube, its mostly how he shares' AFTER he started to transition. So did his biological father when he posted that he was not allowed to be part of his son's life after his mother cut him out of their lives. Don't pretend you know more than the parents of an obviously mentally unbalanced child.

There are lots of people crying 'why didnt the mom get him help' but you also have to note that Tumbler Ridge only has 2400 residents and the equivalent of 1.5 family doctors. The local medical center is shut down regularly because there is no doctor available on duty. So I highly doubt there was a trained psychiatrist in town, let alone one who specializes in child psychology. A kid this messed up would need to be in a psych ward for extended treatment. The nearest larger city is still 1.5 hours away and with a single mom with 5 kids, Im sure the idea of getting him there would've been extremely difficult. It's a tragedy all the way around, its just very sad that so many innocent kids and the mom had to die and so many families will grieve this the rest of their lives.

May they all rest in peace and the families receive some solace that there are thousands of people thinking and caring about them.

They're saying that prejudicual hate creates monsters.

Yes, the monsters are still guilty, but its clear that there are root causes that must be addressed to prevent this sort of thing from happening again and again and again.

[-] orbitz@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

Agreed, but unfortunately people who do that are well known for flooding the zone, then this gets more people on their side, even if they didn't have any good points to make. Just a few feels and some less than cricital thinking will win people over.

Been awhile since I was in school I do hope they're stil teaching kids how to think on their own these days. Though unsure if I picked that up on my own and has my own opinions to not exclude random people who cause no harm or was actually taught it. Heck if anything it'd have been sesame street abd Mr Rogers teaching me that, those radicals teaching to not be bigoted.

Mean I also definitely support mental health for all, I know I've had to visit a few times myself and think everyone should have the opportunity if needed.

Used to live near there for awhile, couple hours away unsure if we ever went there, think my town was smaller, wikipedia tells me it is currently a similar size so guess not by much if at all (like a few hundred people different sort of thing)

That's quite special to think about genitalia when you look at a mass shooting...

[-] SamuelRJankis@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago

I spoke to someone today that had a lot to say about the shooter's gender. When I asked if they even knew if the shooter was alive or captured they couldn't answer me.

We're in the same province where this happened. These people has lost even the most basic self preservation instincts in favor whatever narrative people tell them to obsess about

Maybe don't use substack to promote your anti-hate message. They're literally profiting off Nazis.

Do... Do you think she's seeing this comment?

[-] LNRDrone@sopuli.xyz 14 points 2 days ago

Of course not, but whoever posted it here should

[-] Sunshine@piefed.ca 11 points 2 days ago

The Pleb and Radio-Canada recklessly endangering an innocent trans woman and taking hours remove the posts 🙄

Tara Armstrong spreading bullshit and scapegoating once again.
