Wouldn't this cost a fortune in training everyone to be firearms trained, are they even all taser trained currently?

See I was imagining a Met-issue technical but yours is objectively cooler.
I was in the police in England. I was sent to a domestic incident where the perpetrator was believed to have a licensed shotgun on the premises.
Closest firearms unit was over an hour away.
And this was a heavily populated area. So christ knows how long some poor beat bobby in McBackwater, Scotland would be having to wait for support.
Either all cops need to have some ability to arm themselves, or there needs to be many more AFOs.
The fear seems to be that access to guns quickly leads to normalisation of guns, especially if the criminals try to keep up.
But I can imagine a middle ground where guns and training are available, but you have to get permission from a specialist who’s on the hook if it turns out the guns weren’t justified (or some such idea to stop them ending up in every action) to unlock the gun safe. Then the “domestic with a shotgun” scenario might be resolved a little more efficiently without everyone having to accept guns everywhere.
Agree. I'd have been fine with a middle ground
You would think that a decent number of pice would be trained in firearms use and then at least have some guns available at each station that can then send out a trained officer when needed.
