Why not?
Because police kill people every fucking day by mistake. Many countries do not arm police, they have highly trained squads with guns they call, and those guys don't spray bullets when they are nervous.
So if you'd trust highly trained people with guns why not highly train the police force? In more than just firearms too.
More guns = more shootings. It's pretty fucking obvious.
Because then you either have a tiny police force or you lower standards for gun discipline.
Why? They're cops not the military. They shouldn't exist in the first place, but at least being unarmed is preferable.
Shouldn't exist in the first place is a wild take. I know its just ignorant idealism. I wanna live where you do, where everyone is nice and rape/murder/violent assault doesn't happen.
Where you live there must be no rape/murder/violence because the police stop it all?
Empowered communities able to defend themselves are a much better method of preventing and stopping crime than policing is.
Have any evidence of that aside from hope/idealism? I'm big on realistic solutions. Having zero is impossible, my assertion is that the number is less based on having a police presence/a number you can call to have humans show up vs not having one.
