Gen Z activist stories are one of the few things that still give me hope.

It's hugely encouraging to see this activity happening at an Ivy League school. I hope this helps catalyze young people from wealthy families to start working towards the common good.

"We just don't want to be treated like garbage"

"It appears we are at an impasse"

What are those garbage voting hours.

It's usually the birth name of a transgender person who has transitioned to a new name of their choosing. So like if Dave decided they want to be Lindsey, calling Lindsey "Dave" would be dead naming them

[-] MycelialMass@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Got it, interesting to call them 'dead' names.

[-] unfreeradical@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

They are literally dead names, that is, names that had once not been, but now are, dead.

[-] subignition@kbin.social 11 points 1 year ago

A "dead name" or "deadname" is the term for the name given at birth to a person who has turned out to be transgender and changed their name as part of their transition. Knowing that a person has a preferred name and intentionally using their dead name is a fairly hostile act.

Its the name you will have on your tombstone, not whatever name you call yourself.

[-] cybersandwich@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

You realize tombstones have nicknames and whatever the dead called themselves, right?

[-] PatFussy@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Im just answering what does it mean. I know you can write your name as colonel "its britney bitch" sanders if you want
