I expect there are strategic reasons why the travel advisory isn’t being updated ahead of the CUSMA review. Once it’s over I have a strong feeling that will change.

Why do people need the government to tell them not to visit the US? People can read the news and see the travesties happening south of the border.

Based on polling it’s the people who specifically dislike the government and their messaging that need to stop traveling. An official advisory isn’t going to change many of those minds.

The one benefit I see of an official advisory is if your work tries to force you to travel. That becomes a lot harder when the official policy is it’s dangerous.

ICE is arresting and detaining US citizens who have their passports on them.

Anyone coming to the US at this point is taking a big risk. Especially if they're not white.

These indigenous territories span both Canada and the United States, so people need to travel to the United States to visit relatives and access services.

Because these communities existed before the border, which was imposed on them by colonizers.

Sure, but if you know there's a high likelihood of problems going somewhere, it's a smart idea to avoid it.

As per the rule with cars: dead right is still dead.

I've seen statements going out from larger Indigenous social media groups urging caution - wouldn't doubt though that the Mohawk or Blackfoot are going to cross regardless, because their families are across that border or for cultural reasons.

It's a rock and a hard place problem.
