Hang it up man, jesus. That last game in 2022 looked so cringe and terrible. Like tryin to mix saints row and fortnite. I haven't played one since SR2 but that's probably for the best.

Pretty sure the franchise was cooked when

SpoilerThey blew up Earth

I mean where TF do you go from there? And the reboot sucked. So yes. Yes it is.

Eh. They had options. With something as crazy as the Saints Row franchise they dissolve basically done anything.

For example, have the Saints go back in time to prevent the destruction of Earth, overshoot and end up preventing their own founding. The test of the game consists of them trying to prevent themselves from being erased from existence a la Back to the Future.

Or, if you want to dial back the craziness, declare the plot of IV to be a movie the Saints produced, which flopped and somehow ended up bankrupting Ultor.

They had options.

that would be fun, traveling through different eras, or like hickmans comics you can have a new world made in one dudes image that they eventually get rid of to restore reality to how it was, could even just go forward to go backwards like futurama, I enjoyed the saints row superhero and scifi stuff.

Tbh I thought this too but retconning would actually have been completely accepted i think

Alternate realities/timelines. It ain't over until they destroy the whole universe, and even then it's probably still not over.

Very sad, I liked that series quite a bit.
The reboot just shat the bed.

[-] mnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago

The reboot was a perfect example of why you should just let some series have their satisfying ending and leave it at that

I felt like it jumped the shark when 3 came out. I did not enjoy it at all.

[-] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

don't worry, GTA6 will have you covered for semi-edgy open world crime satire.

[-] sleepmode@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Nah. Fuck Rockstar.

[-] deltaspawn0040@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 months ago

I just need one of those GPUs that costs $4000

[-] itsathursday@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

If GTA came out more frequently then this game would also. You can’t parody what isn’t there.

How would a prequel even work? The first Saints Row was a gritty street-level crime drama and only escalated to its signature ridiculousness after the Boss took over in 2. The original leader of the Saints, Julius, even has your character assassinated at the end of the first game (you get better) because he didn't like how violent the gang was getting.

A game set before the Boss joined where Julius is still calling the shots sounds boring. Unless they mean a prequel to the reboot, but why make one for a game that was poorly received and instantly forgotten upon release?

Statements like this give me always a sensible chuckle. Compared to the rest of the franchise the first one is pretty grounded. Thats true. But it still is such a goofy game with over the top comedy. The very first cutscene is so stupid already. As is everything else. It still is a GTA parody. 'gritty street-level crime drama' lmao

Saints Row 2 was one of my favorite games mainly because you had the option of picking people up and throwing them to fight.

I made my character a giant, and I'm pretty sure I played through ~75% of the game without ever needing to use a weapon because I could just pick everybody up and take them out with one or 2 throws. I also remember giving her the derpy face option.
