I workout every day on a sports field next to a university campus, a place I always considered safe because people actually leave their stuff on the stands and workout on the field. It's expected you respect other's belongings.

Today I left my gloves on the first stand and proceeded to stretch on the field. A woman came by, placed her bike next to the gloves, covered the gloves with her jacket and started running.

I witnessed it all and said nothing because she didn't take the gloves, "just" covered them.

I ended my routine and thought about asking her to move her jacket so I could recover my gloves but she was training on the other side of the field, so I simply lifted her jacket, recovered my gloves and left.

I now believe she thought she could get em for free and nobody would notice.

I don't know if I'm being paranoid. Does this look like an opportunist thief to you?

Doesn't sound like a thief to me. They never stick around. Sounds more like someone being careless with their jacket.

You're a clever one, op, but we'll get your gloves sooner or later. The full capabilities of our organization will be brought to bear on your outerwear piece by piece. The beanie's next

if these are literally just regular gloves, she may have not seen them at all.

You’re overthinking it .

Definitely suspicious behavior. It's plausible she didn't notice them, or that she noticed them but had some other intent besides theft. I wouldn't jump to any conclusions without further evidence.

I think she thought she could keep them if nobody asked or showed up for.

If you didn't see her covering the gloves, what would you have done? Gone home without? Asked around? Moved her stuff? Genuinely asking.
