Curse the day I was born male. TT

[-] Dogiedog64@lemmy.world 29 points 2 months ago

They don't want you to know this, but you can become a woman through the wonders of medical science.

[-] emotional_soup_88@programming.dev 23 points 2 months ago

The thought has crossed my mind a few times through the years. I guess transphobia and such bigotry is one of the few things I wish didn't exist when growing up during the 90's. I've often felt uneasy and uncomfortable in situations where I was required to "act like a man", but I never had the guts to protest.

[-] Dogiedog64@lemmy.world 18 points 2 months ago

It's never too late to start, though, with the current political trends in the USA, it may not be prescient to continued survival.

[-] emotional_soup_88@programming.dev 14 points 2 months ago

I was JUST closing my eyes, drifting away, imagining a world without gender and sexuality related boundaries. And POP you popped my bubble. D: No hard feelings though. :D

[-] Dogiedog64@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago

I'm sorry, it's just the tragic and unfortunate state of the world. Would be nice if people stopped fighting over it though.

I won't make any false promises and tell you it'll be easy, but you can be a woman. It's never too late to consider transition, and despite all the evil in the world there will be many more people who will support and cherish you.

Thank you for your words of encouragement ๐Ÿ’ maybe I'll read up on people's experiences on transitioning in adulthood ๐Ÿ˜Š

[-] Melissa@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 months ago

I transitioned at 40. Easily the best decision Iโ€™ve ever made. Itโ€™s never too late. Happy to answer anything you might wonder.

[-] applebusch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 2 months ago

Hey if you decide to start now you won't be alone. I only started hormones like 6 months ago so I'm going to be in my visibly trans phase during all of whatever crazy shit is about to happen. The crazy shit is going to happen anyway, might as well get on the road to being the real me.

[-] emotional_soup_88@programming.dev 6 points 2 months ago

That is so effing inspiring and your are SO brave! ๐Ÿ’œ

[-] applebusch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 2 months ago

I'm not that brave. It was this or die so...

The masculine urge to be a lesbian

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

i don't, because it brought us you. i totally get wishing our genetics were different, and i totally get the sentiment you're saying it with, but i'm not going to curse the day you were born. you're too important.

[-] emotional_soup_88@programming.dev 5 points 2 months ago

Thank you. These are the kindest words I've heard in a long time. Keep up the good work of existing and being yourself! ๐Ÿซถ

[-] angrystego@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

They're cursing the wrong sex part, not the being born part. Let's curse the fact they were not given to us in the form they prefer - they deserve our cursing support!

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

agreed. short version, i'm a stickler for my words (i try not to be for others but y'know, sometimes it slips out) because sometimes the slightest change in wording in our self-talk can change our long-term outlook. never know who will give us the words we need, and if i can give positive words i'm going to.

regarding the cursing, i will gladly join y'all in cursing that E_Soup comrade doesn't have the body she desires. i don't know gender dysphoria, but i know body dysphoria and if they're anything the same it's gotta suck.

[-] kivihiili@lemmy.blahaj.zone 22 points 2 months ago

this is me, but also too with being transfemme

like occasionally i just take note of how despite being born a guy, i am in my fluffy shark onesie in the garage doing my nails while listening to german country music or whatever as if i am still cis. then i think to myself "oh what the hell have i become. i am the ultimate affront to god." and proceed to do a :3 internally whilst my girlfriend makes cat noises.

[-] oftheair@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 2 months ago

born a guy

Nobody is born a gender, literally they don't have one (if they do) until around 2 or so.

All people are born a baby and genderless.

women are not born, they are made

[-] oftheair@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 months ago

What do you mean? We genuinely don't understand.

[-] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 2 months ago

That even for cis women, their "womanhood" is built throughout their lives rather than being something they are born with. Nobody is born a woman, even if being a woman is right for them.

[-] oftheair@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 months ago

Ah yes, the whole gender is a performance thing, right?

Yes, but gender's nature as a "performance" can be easy to misunderstand. People often conflate gender being a performance with someone needing to perform a gender to be the gender; that by performing a gender that is who you really are. That gender only exists as a social phenomenon performed for the sake of others.

It's more that we're all actors who are given roles to perform, and while most people are content playing their given role, some people are not. Even outside of social pressure, people have their preferences, with most people suffering a mental consequence if they can't perform their preferred role. Even though nobody is born embodying a gender, they can not be assigned any gender other people choose.

It's also important to note that while gender is malleable and can very greatly across time and space, there are poorly understood degrees of freedom for gender. We are so, so far from knowing why people have gender preferences or what defines them. It probably isn't the case that there's some universal essence of gender, with us instead having underlying psychological patterns that express themselves within the social context. We might not be able to choose all genders equally, but we can choose what fits best and redefine gender for ourselves.

Thanks so much for taking the time to explain. We really appreciate it!

[-] kivihiili@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 months ago

i did mean that as in AMAB, but on second thought that's a really insightful way of describing how gender identity develops. thank you!

[-] oftheair@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 months ago

Sure, we are happy to help.

[-] TheFresh16@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago
