Bonjour! Starting up a community and keeping it running (mainly through content generation) for any significant amount of time seems hard to do across the Fediverse, but a couple colleagues have done a smash-up job so far with two recent startups:

FauxPseudo's !comicstripedits@lemmy.world
MrNobody's !quotes@quokk.au

I'm helping out a bit, but the initiative and bulk of the project is of their doing.

Btw, I'm also trying to revive !outofcontextcomics@lemmy.world lately, and so far it's been going pretty well. @Hofmaimaier@feddit.org has been a big help, recently. Salute to all these folks!

Btw2, I'm not really sure how to access Peertube, Mastodon, Pixelfed and Funkwhale content from my standard FV-browsing experience. If anybobby knows how to do that, feel free...

As your instance is piefed.social:

Mastodon

if you add tags to a post it should be seen on Mastodon too. No way to directly follow Mastodon tags or users AFAIK yet

Peertube

finding stuff your instance already knows about

go to search (the magnifying glass at the top of web UI)
choose "Communities" button
type in the peertube instance you are interested in
https://piefed.social/communities?search=makertube&language_id=0

subscribing to new stuff

go to channel page https://makertube.net/c/ctrlaltrees/videos (I know this one is already federated, just as example)
click the small copy button next to @handle or copy the URL
go to search -> "add remote community" at the bottom https://piefed.social/community/add_remote
paste in the box, click search, it should appear below in a few seconds
