Seeking to reassure jittery global markets and several oil tankers currently reversing course at full speed, the Defense Department announced Thursday that Iranian mines scattered throughout the Strait of Hormuz are “clearly marked” by helpful indicators including floating debris, columns of fire, and the occasional secondary explosion.

According to defense officials, the debris field created by earlier explosions has effectively formed a “natural warning system,” guiding ships away from the most dangerous portions of the strait.

“In many ways, the system is self-organizing,” the spokesperson explained.

It doesn’t even seem like satire anymore. Even the official “propaganda” coming out of the US State department is comically bad in the funniest sad sort of way.

It is funny, but tragic too, and they will turn this against us at home too. We've to find a way to stop them.

Is that thumbnail AI or is that how narrow the strait is?

[-] LordMayor@piefed.social 8 points 1 month ago

The strait is 24mi wide at the narrowest part. Unless those ships are 10mi long, I’ll go with AI.

1000% AI

The port in the background, when looking across the strait, would be Shahid Bahonar.

It has two curved stone jetties creating a bay, not a single concrete dock:

All of the ports in the area use the same design, dredged sand covered with stone. I couldn't find a single concrete dock outside of one of these artificial bays.

Those are the biggest ships on the planet one is around 20 miles long.

You can see by the scale at the bottom of this image that the straight is roughly 80 miles wide.

Yes, its just the tankers are massive then. Also the angle is interesting and adds to the "illusion". Maybe its just my brain tho :)

I measured 65 km there.

That picture is fake. The width of the straight is 50Km or 31miles.... Or basically 7656532 ripe Costco bananas back to back on their long side.

Ha ha, yeah, trust the administration with your 100,000,000 dollar ship, that takes years to replace, that insurance won't insure.

This administration is even dumber than Bush's, by a lot. Fuck these guys.
