Personally, I thing the Visual Look Up of laundry or car symbols is so coool. Can’t wait to try it out!

Just tried it. In the first image it didn’t identify anything, so I took a second one. Now it can read the text. BTW it identified the laundry symbols as 的达叉&网. The search results weren’t particularly helpful. I never saw any star buttons anywhere, so I guess this feature isn’t really a thing in my phone.

Your iPhone can read laundry symbols

Okay, I don't have an iphone, but if I did that would make my life a lot easier.

Also, what about sideloading of apps? Is that a thing in iOS 17 now?

Companies identified as gatekeepers under the DMA have until 6 March 2024 to comply with all of the Act's provisions

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Markets_Act

I would expect Apple to drag its feet and wait until iOS 17.3 or 17.4 to finally enable sideloading.

Annoying, but as long as they do it I'll be pleased. I'm hoping this'll also mean that we'll get some browsers that aren't Safari in a trench coat.

Well technically you can install 3rd party apps using AltStore since iOS 14 (?). It’s a hassle to set up and you have to be at home every week (it needs to be at same network with your pc). But you don’t need rooting!!!

And since I sideload only YouTube and YouTube music (same apps as I had sideloaded with android) and I after Covid still don’t travel for longer than 1 week.

(Yes, I lost bet and I had to start using iPhone for two years)

I believe it is US/some regions only, unfortunately :(

[-] ChrisFhey@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

I thought it was the other way around since it's the EU that's forcing the change.

[-] Plantee@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Oh sorry! My comment was a bit vague, meant the feature which recognises symbols and such (visual look up?).

[-] ChrisFhey@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Aah, I see. No worries. Just a slight misunderstanding. :)

Bit of a shame really, that feature seems like it’d be really useful. Especially given my lack of knowledge regarding laundry.

Same as wam ice cream - no ☹️

[-] SamsonSeinfelder@feddit.de 3 points 1 year ago

Very gimmicky for a major release. I do not need any of these features.

[-] randomaccount43543@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

These are some some small changes of the update, not the flagship features. Let me ask you, what other simple small features would you like to see added?

[-] SamsonSeinfelder@feddit.de 7 points 1 year ago

I have a photo gallery that is a mess to scroll and find anything. I would like to see a new approach to solving this problem (if possible at all).

[-] Sheltac@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

I’d settle for hiding photos in albums from recents, as that would tell me what I need to organise and don’t.

[-] Icebound_Woof@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Pinging Apple Watch from the iPhone is such a niche feature. Can’t imagine people using that much.

[-] Crow@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I really hope they fix some bugs…
