One time on Reddit, I made a post on a subreddit and a person commented. Then I made another post on another subreddit, and that person went on my profile and was talking shit on that post and commenting on my other comments. Look, if you want to talk shit on Reddit and stalk people’s profiles, going through their comments, please post your contact information and full address so these people can go to your place of residence.

And if the person gets seriously harmed oh well.

So if you talk shit on Reddit and go to peoples profiles PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE leave your real name, full address, phone number and other contract information.

It's pretty unusual to see someone include the exact reason people don't do what they're arguing for in their argument, but it saves us time I suppose.

Seriously, though, if peoples' comments on Reddit make you want to physically harm them, maybe it's time to get off of the internet.

For real, OP you couldn't be more wrong in every way.

You wish serious physical harm on someone for replying to your post on reddit.
Utterly disgusting.

It's time for you to take an internet break, buddy. And for the love of sanity, delete your Reddit account!

Maybe you should try out Facebook. They already do include a name and other identifiers while shit talking.

Though not sure how beneficial those are if the shit talker is on the other side of the globe.

So most places in the U.S. they would consider that a premeditated attack if someone showed up at their house and they would legally be able to shoot the person in the head and walk free, because it is truly self defense. Now more than likely the reality would be that the majority of people would just post the address of their ex boyfriend, or your ex wife's new husband, some bully from school, etc in case the person showing up would shoot first not believing it was the wrong person.

At the end of the day the entire thing sounds carless which is why it is probably an unpopular opinion

Block and move on with your life.

You can't let internet randos get you that upset.

Definitely an unpopular opinion :)

People who do that, don't want confrontation. But points for having an unpopular opinion!

I understand the feeling (don't condone it, neither in you or me, but trust me, I understand it deeply) but you cannot morally justify putting a person's life in danger because they're annoying online. You can usually just block them too, you know? And the possibility of that person being a literal child or an emotionally/mentally challenged adult is very high too... You're gonna have to deal with your anger management issues, my friend (again, I understand!), for the sake of all of us.

The problem is the asymmetry. Whoever posts their location is basically opening themselves up to be 1st striked since they dont know the attackers look or when they will show up.

Better to keep internet stuff on the internet. Is it really a big deal if someone looks through your public comments?

At first I wanted to kick op's ass for this take, but without clearly posted contact information I wasn't sure how. So I guess we're on the same page

Oh boy this post feels unpopular (to me). You get my support for posting to this community!

But to add to this I couldn't disagree more with you on worrying about some random bro from Bangladesh talking shit at me. I do think these kinda people suck but I don't want them harmed. It's just easier to chuckle at someone that would burn hours on that kinda thing; goofy as all hell.

Welcome to the Unpopular Opinion community!

How voting works:

Vote the opposite of the norm.

If you agree that the opinion is unpopular give it an arrow up. If it's something that's widely accepted, give it an arrow down.

Guidelines:

Tag your post, if possible (not required)

  • If your post is a "General" unpopular opinion, start the subject with [GENERAL].
  • If it is a Lemmy-specific unpopular opinion, start it with [LEMMY].

Rules:

1. NO POLITICS

Politics is everywhere. Let's make this about [general] and [lemmy] - specific topics, and keep politics out of it.

2. Be civil.

Disagreements happen, but that doesn’t provide the right to personally attack others. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Please also refrain from gatekeeping others' opinions.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Shitposts and memes are allowed but...

Only until they prove to be a problem. They can and will be removed at moderator discretion.

5. No trolling.

This shouldn't need an explanation. If your post or comment is made just to get a rise with no real value, it will be removed. You do this too often, you will get a vacation to touch grass, away from this community for 1 or more days. Repeat offenses will result in a perma-ban.

6. Defend your opinion

This is a bit of a mix of rules 4 and 5 to help foster higher quality posts. You are expected to defend your unpopular opinion in the post body. We don't expect a whole manifesto (please, no manifestos), but you should at least provide some details as to why you hold the position you do.

Instance-wide rules always apply. https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/
