It's insane how much of neoliberal political ideology is built on hypotheticals

It really is just bog standard liberal arguing tactics. The hypothetical of "Would you still support them if they did something completely pointless and evil for no reason?" is a favourite of theirs. They can't judge them based on their actions because it would reveal their own double standard, so they have to judge them based on them hypothetically being worse. Which is nice and easy because you can always imagine a hypothetical where the enemy team does something worse than your team.
