If you get some willing vets, you could even legally burn it in the right scenario. Probably not the best thing to do because I cannot guarantee the current government won't go after you for terrorism charges.

This reminds me, I haven’t heard much from the sovereign citizens lately. What have they been up to?

I guess when the “legit” government goes crazy, they just lay low or start getting license plates?

Fair enough.

You don't need willing vets, you just need to not be chanting anti Statesian slogans or anything like that. Put it in a metal bucket, light it on fire, and when it's burnt extinguish any remaining flame. If you are solemn and respectful about it, then that's about all the ceremony they ask for. Can even crack a beer open.

I ways heard that was vets who were allowed to burn flags and that it's normally not okay for a non-vet to do it, so TIL.

i mean i'm not a lawyer and enjoy crimes, but also burning a flag is protected first amendment speech should you choose to exercise that right so i am given to understand so like i'm not endorsing crimes which kind of sucks.

According to the U.S. Flag Code, a worn-out American flag should be destroyed in a dignified manner, preferably by burning, rather than being put in the trash

Given US industry regulations (or lack thereof) burning it would probably release toxic cancerous fumes, so make sure everyone nearby is wearing a respirator mask while it burns.

Or just throw it in the trash.

Why even bother folding it? That takes too much effort, just stuff it into the can.

A humorous punchline sometimes relies on the subversion of expectations.

Compacted trash takes up less space on the landfill.

Burning plastic is also not recommended.

[-] FederatedFreedom1981@lemmy.ca 4 points 20 hours ago

Damn, it really IS useless in all forms.

I first thought this was a joke about how you can't fold a sheet of paper more than 7 times.
