So you can patent genes that occur in nature which you had no involvement in developing but you cannot patent fictional creatures that you created whole cloth?
I know that is not what the patent was about

Isn't this the patent they were suing Palworld over? That game and Pokemon are basically fighting a proxy war on behalf of Sony and Nintendo, it's hilarious.
Also mobile slop factories lately churn out pokemon games which i'm pretty sure have nothing to do with nintendo, i seen at least 3 in just one short look there.
