They are. Theyre also building another highway to relieve traffic from it. No it won't work. Yes theyre doing it anyway. I hate it here

Sow roads, reap traffic

Don't worry, when they put the 401 in a tunnel, traffic will be solved

So i looked this up and apparently Freeway 401 has up to twenty lanes at the widest sections, how tf do you even drive on something like that, this must cause a traffic jam every time somebody wants to get to an off-ramp.

On average there's 6-8 lanes in each direction, so 12-16 in total. Those 6-8 lanes are split into two roadways, one for local traffic and one for express traffic. At some interchanges you can switch between the local and express roadways and at those points a few extra lanes for the ramps are where the 20-lane figure comes from.

always found it amusing that the busiest highway in north america is not in the us, but canada instead

Toronto leads the world in traffic as well. More than even L.A. And yet people here still go on and on about the War on Cars anytime someone suggests bike or train infrastructure

[-] 7bicycles@hexbear.net 3 points 2 weeks ago

I think most of where you find war on cars people is where it's very car centric

[-] OgdenTO@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, you're right about that

They're capacity-mogging our highways ;_;

Thanks Robert Moses.

243M journeys in the Elizabeth line btw. More than most countries' populations. Mind boggling

Highway 401 runs through Toronto. Toronto's line 1 subway also carries more people than the 401, so it's not even the most efficient method of transport in its own locale
