The teacher has taken the government to court, seeking to invalidate a provincial education policy that allows students 14 and up to change the name and pronouns used in school with or without parental consent.

Of course it's Quebec. You have no personal freedoms there. No freedom of religion, and now they're attacking freedom of gender expression. Soon you'll have to be a white Catholic Quebecois "de souche" or go to jail!

Only place more regressive is Alberta.

Like everywhere else, we have a bunch of loudmouth idiots who will cause every and all possible ruckus for shits and giggles, yet get all the attention on nearly nonexistent problems and making these into a problem.

And while I am very aware the entire province of Quebec is far and wide, and that some cities and areas throughout the province remain quite obtuse, Montreal is one of the most tolerant cities of the world. It’s not perfect, and it still has a lot of work to do, but still much better than average.

It's not a bunch of loudmouths, it's enough loudmouths and enablers to enact discriminating legislation. Montreal is a wonderful city, I used to visit frequently and lived there for years, but it's hard to call it tolerant when you're banned from half the jobs for your religion. I can tell you even in professional work, in Montreal, the majority of my co-workers supported these types of laws such as the initial bill 21 and it's a big part of why I left.

“This is sending a very clear message to minority communities and faith communities in Quebec, but also around the country: your rights don’t mean anything."

I used to live in Alberta. Deep in the woods, where somehow, white racists asshats thrive. I just thought they were assholes as a kid. Now as an adult I see all the racism directed at me, and my siblings. Church community my ass
