While design can be excellent, manufacturing often suffers. I have had the chance to check out fairly thoroughly a couple of friend's Chinese EVs, and I found things like primer showing I certain parts of the engine bay, flimsy supports for the infotainment system, etc. One of them told me that the steering wheel buttons stopped working a couple of weeks, and warranty service was being a nightmare.

Cost cutting shows. They are going the opposite route of Toyota. They'll probably earn a reputation in the mid term for low quality and low durability.
