I noticed recently that someone I blocked in the past was able to downvote my post. I thought if you block someone, they shouldn't be able to see my posts at all? We are on two different instances if it helps.

No., you are blocking them, you can't force them to block you.

[-] homes@piefed.world 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

no, blocks don't work here like they do on reddit. a block only mean they you won't see them anymore. they can still see you and interact with your posts/comments.

Are you sure about this? I went to go read and found blogs saying that blocking stops interacting while only muting stops yourself from seeing their posts

That’s a different platform (mastodon in this instance, which has symmetrical blocking). I’m referring to Lemmy. I believe piefed and mbin do the same thing.

edit: the post discusses account portability-- while the block, itself, carries across federated services, how that block functions depends on the service itself. Lemmy/piefed/mbin and Mastodon blocks don't work the same way.

No, doing anything else would be crap. You are free to ignore whomever you want, but demanding right to control what others see is insane.

[-] FelixCress@lemmy.world -1 points 1 month ago

No. I should be able to stop other users interacting with content I create if they interact in bad faith.

[-] 14th_cylon@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 month ago

No, you should not. You have a control over what you want to see. You are not in control of what others want or can see and demanding otherwise is just laughable. Once you publish something on online discussion forum, people can see it. Deal with it.

I can. Can you? The fact you are mad you can't censor people does not mean i can't read.

I misread the following part and mixed up people, op was not op of the linked post, the post was actually about him and he does not like it.I apologize for the confusion.

Tap for spoilerSo i used my power of reading to check what the problem is.

https://multiverse.soulism.net/c/comicstrips/p/105344/please-ban-comics-by-bigoted-artists

You want to ban "bad artists" from the comics community and you are mad you can't do it.

Here is a solution to your problem. If you really do have "consensus" as you claim, take all the consenting people, go and make your own comics community, with blackjack, hookers, and your own rules you can enforce.

That is how it works.

[-] FelixCress@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I can.

Good. Now read again as you definitely had the wrong end of the stick.

You want to ban "bad artists" from the comics community and you are mad you can't do it.

Ehrm, no. Quite the opposite. I want whingers to stop seeing comics I post so they stop moaning.

[-] 14th_cylon@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago

Touché, my bad.

The rest however still applies. What you are demanding is not possible and never will be (for good reason).

The only way you could achieve what you want is either with action of the mods, or by establishing your own community, where you can ban whomever you wish.

[-] unmagical@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Why do you want to violate other's autonomy?

Do you try to control the actions of other people to conform to your personal will in real life to?

If you don't like what someone is saying or doing you always have the option of ignoring it and moving on with your life.

Edit: 668

Weird, you seem to have understood the concept here. Wonder what happened to make you suddenly change tack.

[-] IntrovertTurtle@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago

Careful, OP's sensative and they'll get mad if you call them out for being a hypocritical toolbox.

[-] unmagical@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago

Guess they'll just have to block and move on with life.

I don't think that they're physically able to, seeing as they're still arguing with all the 'moaners' 🤔

[-] Steve@communick.news 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Is it?
Everything is inherently public. Every post and comment is available to anyone with an account and everyone without one. All one would have to do is log out to see all your stuff again. You can't really block people from seeing you, when everything is always public.

[-] FelixCress@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago

It's crap that I cannot stop them interacting rather than just seeing.

[-] czl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 month ago

It’s actually better. If they were prevented from interacting with you, they could just make another account and continue.

This way they don’t know they are talking to the void.
