Fuck you Ford.

CBC's article brings up another questionable aspect of this:

NoJetsTO, a citizen group that opposes the province's plans to take over Billy Bishop airport from the city’s jurisdiction to allow jets to land at the island airport, alleged in a statement the province's move coinciding with the Challenger 650's purchase isn't "a coincidence."

“For eight years Premier Ford has not said a single word about the island airport, and suddenly he’s hell bent on expand the airport to allow him to fly Gravy Plane jet from there," Chair Norm Di Pasquale said in the statement.

"Ford continues to make decisions affecting Torontonians with the sole focus of him being able to get to work and his fundraisers across Ontario faster."

Gravy Plane

Love it

[-] GenesisClimber@lemmy.ca 19 points 1 week ago

Does the Gravy Train pull the plane along like a kite?

A valid argument can be made for having an executive transport plane in the provincial fleet. There is no valid argument for buying one of the most expensive business jets on the market for this purpose. If it’s supposed to be primarily for travel around the province then it makes even less sense.

They’d be better served by something like a King Air 350, which is simpler and easier to service, can land on the gravel runways that are so common in northern Ontario, and is cheaper in every metric.

This jet they’ve bought is 28.9M, I found a 2019 King Air 350i for 9.1M, and another from 2014 for 8M. (All Canadian dollars)

But big expensive private jet make Dougie’s dick hard, I guess.

“Northern Ontario” would imply that he gives a fuck about anything besides pretending that he’s the mayor of Toronto.

[-] ZJBlank@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Yeah, but one of their stated justifications was that Ontario has a landmass “twice the size of Texas,” but this new plane is useless for actually accessing most of it

[-] Soup@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Conservatives, especially Dougie, are experts at spending a lot of money on things that don’t work because they never did any research at all. See: those stupid license plates.

"Get a job!"

[-] pubquiz@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago

That fat fuck. Out of touch isn't descriptive enough. I can afford rent or groceries. Not that the fat fuck cares.

[-] OrteilGenou@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

I can afford rent or groceries.

Whoa look at moneybags over here

I wonder how Ontarians feel now about re-electing Druggie?

I keep hoping they'll apologise for being dumb but it never seems to happen.

[-] BCsven@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

No I have "friends" who would still vote for Doug, because they don't want a leader that is going to mandate your kids must be gay by end of highschool, and will keep immigrants here as part of a hardworking body of the economy.

Why does he need frequent trips to the US to ensure Ontario doesn't trade with them?

The Gravy Plane.

[-] NarrativeBear@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Guess this explains why Fords pushing for the expansion of the downtown airport.

Saves him a trip from Person Airport to Queens Park

Could also explain why he wants that tunnel under the 401, so he can get into Toronto from the Airport quicker.

[-] NottaLottaOcelot@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 week ago

Pretty much everything Doug Ford does is a matter of increasing his personal wealth and convenience.

He is not a conservative. He is not a liberal. He is simply a grifter.

[-] m__a__b@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

Like he ever goes to Queens Park.

[-] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 week ago

Well, he had to do something with that OSAP money.

[-] Reannlegge@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago

I hear the drive between airports in Toronto can be tough but come on. The drive between Toronto and Hamilton takes him between cities sure but really an airplane? Waiting on Air Canada to get from Toronto to Ottawa for meetings can be tough sure but he has an account with whatever video conferencing software they use and a phone.

[-] CircaV@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

The fucking cost of the jet would cover all of OSAP. F.U.C.K. D.O.U.G. F.O.R.D

[-] sik0fewl@piefed.ca 1 points 1 week ago

How long before he uses the jet for personal or party business?

[-] ZC3rr0r@piefed.ca 7 points 1 week ago

Brave of you to assume it will be used for anything but personal leisure use. This is Doug Ford after all.

[-] sik0fewl@piefed.ca 1 points 1 week ago

I have no doubt he will use it for political campaigns.

[-] CircaV@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 week ago

Please. That’s all it’s ever for.
