Of course. Gambling is a hallmark of civilizations in decline.

The Polymarket thing is a bit different though. It's built on a foundation of saps hoping to strike it big, but it promarily benefits insiders, who are turning their knowledge into financial windfalls.

Just another of the privileges afforded the wealthy and empowered few.

fucking polymarket chuds running foreign policy is a problem

[-] fizzle@quokk.au -5 points 5 days ago

That specific problem isn't really "gambling" tough.

no true gambling huh?

  1. the saps losing money to the insiders are genuinely gambling
  2. polymarket is a gambling institution.
  3. without polymarket, you can't have this insider/sap exploitation dynamic

The specific problem of people from the Trump admin betting on polymarket is not "gambling".

[-] pr06lefs@lemmy.ml 6 points 5 days ago

Thats true i suppose, but there's a bunch of more appropriate descriptions, like abuse of office or corruption.

I think there is a lack of opportunity epidemic in the USA right now. The way people cope with that varies.
