Incredibly gut wrenching movie 10/10 experience felt a lot of emotions. I don't do or read film analysis but I'd love if someone pointed me to a good one of this movie. There were a lot of motiffs that I caught the existence of but not the meaning of.

Anyway I came here to ask if anyone else found it unfulfilling? It was a very well made film but it felt like it had no closure. I assume this is intentional and meant to reflect the lack of closure that victims of war often experience but I wanted y'alls thoughts on it. I also found the title very interesting and sort of mocking. It's like the creators are disgusted by the fact that I would want to witness their carnage and only showing it to me in a "get what you asked for and live with it" kinda way.

Highly recommend this movie

It's often said that every war movie is inherently pro-war because it at least partially romanticizes it by framing war in a narrative bow for the sake of storytelling, and I think Come and See does a good job of not providing that to further emphasize the point that it's all ultimately pointless for almost everyone involved. No war movie actually owes the audience closure if it's actually trying to portray war rather than ulterior motives of that war or the system that made the war possible.

Come and See already does a good job of showing war to be confusing, chaotic, detrimental, and entirely negative. The two kids see war as positive in the beginning because they haven't experienced it. Once they start to, it's all downhill from there. A fulfilling end would buck the good trend the filmmakers establish of it not being good.

Haven't seen it yet. Heard it was very depressing. One day I'll be in the right head space to watch it hopefully (same reason I haven't seen Requiem for a Dream).

There's an old thread on reddit talking about it and someone says the Russians did all the same horrors the Nazis are shown doing in the film in Poland before the Nazis showed up.

It took two years of it being on my list to feel up to it. I knew it would be heavy and it was but I also really enjoyed it

The phrase "come and see" is a reference to the bible, calling for people to witness important or transformative spiritual events. It was used a lot in one of the gospels.

In this case it’s probably from Revelation:

And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see. And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer. And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see. And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.
