Portland too.

Maybe it's the paranoiac in me, but I swear these particular "protests" exist to build a dissident list of people to imprison/exterminate later.

They enable recently frustrated libs to make connections with more left wing groups. My mutual aid group got a lot of donations and more volunteers at each of the previous No Kings and 50501 protests. We don't collect information of prospective volunteers, and while our group had to submit some info for the tabling application, it's not more than what we submit for finding grants and contained no personal volunteers information aside from the primary contact. I and several others helped run the tables throughout the event without any event organizers having any info about me.

The police, of course, have access to whatever cell info they buy from all events, so I just leave it at home or turn it off.

Right. I'm not saying everyone who shows up has nefarious intent, but I do think the national security state will take advantage, and is maybe even counting on people showing up to protest. I think we're facing a race right now, for leftists to sufficiently organize before the crackdown comes.

Could argue all protest culture. Direct action better yes.

I looked into volunteering with these groups and the amount of personal information they wanted makes me agree with you.

The idea of "signing up" for a protest just smacks of surveillance.

Our local police are doing this for every little protest. I went to one with like 20 people and they had a drone out

[-] Jentu@lemmy.ml 5 points 3 days ago

I went to one with around 50 people and there were multiple drones and 2 police helicopters circling around us.

[-] FatVegan@leminal.space 5 points 3 days ago

See? We use our million dollar drone. Now we nerd more

[-] robot_dog_with_gun@hexbear.net 5 points 3 days ago

neat, how do we anti-drone without getting owned by the FCC and/or FAA?
