What's hilarious is that my neighbor brags about spending $400 a month on watering his st Augustine monoculture, then asks me what my secret is when we're in a month long drought and my lawn is lush and green with absolutely zero watering.

He refuses to believe that my secret is controlled neglect. Anything that survives until spring gets to grow for a month to put down roots before it all gets mowed every 2 weeks on the highest deck height.

Everything that grows in my yard is adapted for the local climate.

Although I do plan on burying a cistern and routing my HVAC condensate line into it instead of down the drain, as well as the water from my dehumidifier and used aquarium water. Then I'm going to first install a law irrigation system to use said water (to improve my home resale value), then set up irrigation for growing crops.
