As a Canadian, you guys can fuck right off, eh? Get your democratic shit together.

[-] meowmeow@quokk.au 11 points 2 weeks ago

Every Canadian I know now refuses to go across the border even to shop.

I know some older Canadians who still spend every winter in Florida and plan to retire there. They are, of course, white and reasonably wealthy. Myself, I'd rather not live under fascism no matter how sunny the beach is.

[-] Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 week ago

Not worth the (potential) bullshit. Besides, we have plenty of awesome stuff up here anyway, and health care for when you find that maybe trying to pet the wildlife was a bad idea.

[-] meowmeow@quokk.au 0 points 1 week ago

I feel there is a story behind that…

[-] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Dozens of people get gored by Bison yearly on Catalina Island let alone Death Valley and the Mojave maiming people, well I can't imagine the Canadians are having a better time with stupid people not respecting that nature has teeth and will use them.

[-] meowmeow@quokk.au 1 points 1 week ago

I’ve been to both places and have never seen Bison….

[-] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

You have no idea how soft and docile meese are

[-] meowmeow@quokk.au 1 points 1 week ago

I tried to pet a mountain lion once. Do you want to see the scar?

[-] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Lol did you really? I'm game

I also can't say that I wouldn't loosely attempt. Kitty is kitty

[-] adespoton@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

I had to go across once in the past 10 years. Not planning to do so again any time soon.

[-] Buffalox@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

It should be especially to shop. Shopping means supporting their economy just like holidays do.
Visiting family or if a business depend on it I can understand. But going to USA without needing to doesn't make any sense, whether you are from Canada or Europe or most other places in the world.

[-] Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

Yup, unsuspecting shoppers are easy pickens for the border peops.

[-] Teknikal@anarchist.nexus 10 points 1 week ago

I think the World Cup is going to show its not just Canada.

[-] Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 week ago

Until it reaches 0 it is not enough IMO.

[-] collapse_already@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago

I am proud of my Canadian neighbors. I want unequivocal economic destruction traceable to the fat orange pedo.

[-] AskMeForADickPic@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

The Florida cities of Panama City, Orlando, Cape Coral, Miami, Naples and North Port are all in the top 10

Imagine risking your life to visit the shithole states and you pick the most shitty of all the shitholes

[-] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago

I know a few Quebecois .... who primarily speak French and have passable English ... who still cheer for Trump and MAGA and do want to go to Florida to be with Americans because of the "freedom".

I don't get this mentality because at one point it starts to look and sound more like a mental illness than a political ideology

[-] INeedANewUserName@piefed.social 3 points 1 week ago

I suspect a good portion of those Canadians who regularly visited Florida are in a very high tax bracket that would be lower here in the USA and lowered even further by Trump's actions.

[-] NABDad@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

The real Trump Derangement Syndrome.

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

This speaks more to the quality of Canadian tourists than American cities.

[-] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 week ago

Good for them, fuck this place.

[-] iamthetot@piefed.ca 2 points 1 week ago

I won't even go to visit family.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

By all rights, it should go to zero.

[-] Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

I go for a conference almost every year for work. Skipped last year, this year its in Canada (1 out of every 5 years) so I got a two for one.

[-] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

Reading this as a Canadian that is currently spending his vacation on Japan after having been in Singapore for a week.

[-] IamSparticles@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

Don't blame them one single bit. I'm actively investigating whether or not I'm eligible for Canadian citizenship through my great-grandmother, just so I have an emergency exit plan if things turn extra shooty after the mid-terms.

[-] rabber@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Most Americans have no clue how hard life is here without generational wealth

The current state of things, you'd be lucky to land a job at a grocery store

[-] BigDiction@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

Subjectively I am seeing far fewer Ontario plates around southeast Michigan. A couple years ago you would see a bunch especially around sporting events and on summer weekends.

A now there’s also this bullshit red tape trying to get the new Gordie Howe bridge open. Embarrassed how we’ve treated our neighbors the last year and a half.

[-] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 week ago

Embarrassed how we’ve treated our neighbors the last year and a half.

I hope you and your fellow citizens can channel those feelings into the action needed to fix your country.

[-] Zamboni_Driver@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 week ago

Next year: I'm genuinely embarrassed that our military bombed Toronto yesterday. So embarrassed. Oh gosh.

[-] BigDiction@lemmy.world -1 points 1 week ago

Hang on I didn’t consider wiping the Leafs off the map as an option.

[-] CircaV@lemmy.ca -1 points 1 week ago

And nothing of value was lost. No one should be going there. Even after Trump fucks off. US will still be fash.

[-] Tiral@lemmy.world -3 points 1 week ago

I'm surprised they can still travel with the housing crisis among everything else. Does it say WHERE they're traveling too instead? Because of the total has dropped turn it isn't just the US causing it.

[-] updn@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

Jfc you sound like a Russian bot

[-] logi@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Does it say...

I wonder how you could find that out 🤔
