Prolly didn’t have enough experience
There's plenty of plants that would be more than happy with how they're treating it. You can't blame them for failing to water the plant or provide it with a healthy environment and vital nutrients. The plant just needs to pick itself up by it's bootstraps and be happy it can afford to live under someone else's roof.
Sounds like they weren’t a team player.
